Undoubtedly, ASUS makes some of the best gaming devices. Both their TUF and ROG series present quality devices that put gaming performance first and foremost. Today we will focus on their OG ROG laptops, with one unit in particular.

The ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513R (2022) is a mid-range device that still offers high-end components, while not charging as much as the SCAR laptops. Today’s model is a very special one for us, as it is our first time coming in contact with the Ryzen 6000H-series CPUs and the RDNA 2 iGPUs. Thankfully, that’s not the only GPU inside, as you can still get up to an RTX 3080 Ti.

Today we are presenting you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513R (2022).

ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513R (2022): Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513R (2022)

1. Upgradeability

The laptop comes with ample upgradeability, offering two SODIMM RAM slots that can fit up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM. The current RAM installed runs at 4800MHz, which is blazing fast. The slots do support dual-channel mode, so you will get better performance if you utilize two sticks instead of one. Storage-wise, there are two M.2 PCIe x4 slots, which support Gen 4 drives.

Here is our detailed teardown video, which shows how to access both the RAM and SSD slots.

2. Battery life

With a pretty large 90Wh battery pack and the Ryzen 6000H-series, which are making a big fuss out of their supposed energy efficiency, the ASUS laptop manages to deliver 11 hours and 3 minutes of Web browsing, or 8 hours and 13 minutes of video playback. The results are quite impressive, considering the hardware that is housed inside. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

3. Display quality

The laptop offers three 15.6-inch IPS panels. Two of them come with FHD resolution and either a 144Hz or 300Hz refresh rate. Then we have a QHD panel with a 165Hz refresh rate, which is the panel that we tested. The screen shines brightly, with excellent viewing angles, a max brightness of 327 nits in the middle of the screen and 329 nits as an average for the whole area, with a maximum deviation of 5%. The contrast ratio is good, but not great at 1000:1. The display is Creator-ready, covering 100% of the sRGB gamut and 98% of the sRGB color gamut.

In terms of accuracy, the laptop gets the best results with a D65 white point in the DCI-P3 color space. Here are the results with the stock settings (left) and with our Design and Gaming profile applied (right).

Kontorsarbete

4. Performance

CPU benchmarks

The new Ryzen 6000H-series CPUs aren’t utilizing a new architecture, but rather refine and improve on the already impressive Zen 3. This still presents us with a good performance increase, as you can see from the charts. Here are benchmark results from the Ryzen 7 6800H that we tested now, along with some of its main competitors.

GPU benchmarks

For graphics, while we would gladly enjoy the RTX 3080 Ti, we had the pleasure of testing the RTX 3060, which does, however, come with a 140W TGP.

1 reason NOT to buy the ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513R (2022)

1. I/O

The I/O on the laptop is wide, but the use of AMD CPUs means that you don’t get Thunderbolt 4 support. There’s also no SD card slot of any kind. What you get are two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, an HDMI 2.0b port, an Ethernet port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
