HP Pavilion Plus 14 (14-eh0000) – Top 5 Pros and Cons
HP is one of those companies that doesn’t really innovate, relying on proven and tested technology for its devices. However, they are quietly starting to adopt more modern features, and we have the Pavilion Plus 14 as our primary evidence.
Being a 2022 device, it sports the latest Alder Lake processors, with SKUs from all three series. On the GPU front, we’re greeted with two options from NVIDIA, which are also complimented by the integrated graphics inside the CPUs. Finally, we have 16:10 displays which wrap up the Pavilion Plus 14 as a pretty neat and featureful package.
Today we present you with LatopMedia’s top 5 picks about the HP Pavilion Plus 14 (14-eh0000).
HP Pavilion Plus 14 (14-eh0000): Full Specs / In-depth Review
3 reasons to BUY the HP Pavilion Plus 14 (14-eh0000)
1. Design and build quality
HP is entering the sustainability marathon quite strongly, offering the Pavilion Plus 14 with a fully recycled aluminum chassis. Despite all the metal that’s used, the base is still a bit bendy when twisted, and even the touchpad registers clicks. The design reminds us a lot of the Envy laptops, which is good. We get sharp edges with rounded corners, along with a dark blue finish.
The keyboard layout is the same as that on an Envy laptop, with no NumPad, but still long key travel and clicky feedback. The power button is bunched up with the rest, but HP has included single-press cancellation, so you don’t accidentally turn off your laptop, especially if you’re doing something important. The touchpad is massive, with a silver lining. It’s also very smooth and responsive. Finally, in terms of weight and height, the laptop is pretty portable, weighing 1.40 kg and having a profile of 18.4 mm.
2. I/O
The port selection is pretty good, with two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, which sadly don’t have Thunderbolt 4 support, a MicroSD card reader, a 3.5mm audio jack, and an HDMI 2.0 connector. The laptop can be charged using any of the two Type-C ports.
3. Display quality
There are two options, with either a 2.2K IPS panel or a 2.8K OLED panel. We tested the IPS option, which is quite capable of handling productivity and Creator work. It’s got great viewing angles, a max brightness of 357 nits, and a very good contrast ratio of 1940:1, ensuring deep blacks and a good viewing experience. It also covers 93% of the sRGB color gamut.
The color accuracy is improved significantly once we apply our Design and Gaming profile, lowering the dE value from 5.2 to 1.5. Here are our test results with the stock settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).

Kontorsarbete

2 reasons NOT to buy the HP Pavilion Plus 14 (14-eh0000)
1. Thermal management
The cooling setup here is quite good, but sadly HP doesn’t take proper advantage of it as of now. We get two heat pipes with two fans, which should be plenty for the Core i5-1235U.
Max CPU load
Intel Core i5-1235U (15W TDP) | 0:02 – 0:10 sec | 0:15 – 0:30 sec | 10:00 – 15:00 min |
---|---|---|---|
HP Pavilion Plus 14 (14-eh0000) | 2.85 GHz @ 2.43 GHz @ 77°C @ 39W | 2.34 GHz @ 2.10 GHz @ 75°C @ 29W | 1.84 GHz @ 1.79 GHz @ 65°C @ 20W |
As you can see, there is still a long way to go in terms of clock speeds and temperatures. We also believe this because the laptop is very quiet when under heavy load, so the cooling isn’t really reaching its full potential. Maybe with a P-series or an H-series CPU, it will.
Real-life gaming
NVIDIA GeForce MX550 | GPU frequency/ Core temp (after 2 min) | GPU frequency/ Core temp (after 30 min) | GPU frequency/ Core temp (Max fan) |
---|---|---|---|
HP Pavilion Plus 14 (14-eh0000) | 1441 MHz @ 74°C @ 30W | 1436 MHz @ 74°C @ 30W | – |
On the GPU side, this is the second-best performing MX550, maintaining high clock speeds and decent temperatures despite the 30W max TGP.
Comfort during full load
The laptop remains quiet even during prolonged gaming, while the base didn’t heat up that much, reaching 44°C at the arrow keys.
2. Upgradeability
Lastly, the upgradeability suffers a bit, as the laptop offers only soldered RAM, with up to 16GB. For storage, we only see a single M.2 PCIe x4 slot which does support Gen 4 drives.
Here is our detailed teardown video, which shows how to access the insides and the single SSD slot.
