While we definitely put some blame on AMD for its decision to market certain Zen 2 and Zen 3+ chips as Ryzen 7000-series, they definitely offer positives, mainly the new improved RDNA 2 integrated graphics. The Zen 2 7000U-series CPUs are in a unique position to offer a powerful and efficient architecture with modern graphics. The Vivobook Go 15 OLED from ASUS harnesses one such CPU, the Ryzen 5 7520U, along with an OLED panel, which definitely opens the door to this being a portable daily driver with Creator capabilities.

Design

Style is definitely the Vivobook’s strong suit. Undoubtedly, all of its laptops look good. There are several colors to choose from, including Mixed Black, Cool Silver, and Grey Green. The laptop has MIL-STD-810H certification, so you can be sure that it’ll survive day-to-day mishaps. In terms of the build materials, there should be metal involved, especially on the lid, but don’t be surprised if the whole laptop is made of plastic, since the Vivobook Go-series is supposed to be more entry-level. Then again, why would you put an OLED panel on a budget device, which overall increases costs? In terms of weight and thickness, the laptop comes in at 1.63 kg and with a profile of 17.9 mm.

On the side, there’s a pretty stacked port selection, which includes one USB 2.0 port, one USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, one USB Type-C port of the same speed, an HDMI 1.4 port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Display

The 15.6-inch OLED panel has 400 nits of brightness in SDR content, rising up to 600 nits in HDR content. It fully covers the DCI-P3 gamut, while having a 0.2 ms response time. It’s VESA-certified and PANTONE-validated. There is a glossy cover above it, which will cause some reflections, however, it gets bright enough to not be an issue.

Specifications and features

So far, the Vivobook Go 15 OLED comes with just one CPU, the Ryzen 5 7520U. There are 4 cores and 8 threads, along with the Radeon 610M iGPU. The iGPU is fine for most lighter work, offering stable performance when you’re watching movies and videos, but even in more intensive workloads, such as rendering, it can offer help, thanks to its hardware encoder. It’s equipped with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, however, it might be soldered to the motherboard, which wouldn’t bode well for upgradeability. On the other hand, 16GB seems fitting and it’s unlikely that you’d need more. The storage is accessible through one M.2 slot, supporting Gen 3 SSDs. We really like the addition of a fingerprint reader, which is placed in the upper right corner of the touchpad.
