Top 5 reasons to BUY or NOT to buy the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano

Usually, the title of best lightweight notebook goes to either the Swift 5 from Acer or the Gram from LG. This year, Lenovo is getting in on the fun by introducing a very adept device, which you should at least shortlist when choosing your next laptop and your main focus is portability.

After all, the ThinkPad X1 Nano weighs less than a kilogram, which is just insane and is only around 13.9-16.7mm tall. That doesn’t mean that it lacks power, as it comes with up to an i7-1180G7.

Today we are presenting you with LaptopMedia’s Top 5 picks about the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano: Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano

1. The Design and build quality

Having such a slim profile and weighing so little, you would expect a flimsy body that would bend to your will. You’re wrong, as Lenovo’s ThinkPads have always had superb build quality and has a body made out of magnesium alloy, which allows for thinner metal sheets, further lessening the weight and thickness of the laptop. The lid is crafted out of carbon fiber, which is one of the best materials when it comes to rigidity/weight ratio. The body is very sturdy and we noticed little to no flex at all.

2. The Display

The ThinkPad X1 Nano is equipped with a 13.3-inch IPS panel with a QHD+ resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. This makes it ideal for productivity, as more room on the Y-axis enables more programs to be fit on the screen simultaneously. Now for the characteristics of the panel itself, it has comfortable viewing angles and a good contrast ratio. Additionally, it covers 96% of the sRGB color gamut, making for a pretty good device for creators and designers.

The color accuracy reaches the industry-standard dE value of 0.9 when using our “Gaming and web design” profile, which will make professionals happy. Below you can see the results of the color accuracy test with both the factory settings (left) as well as with our “Gaming and web design” profile applied (right).

Kontorsarbete

3. The Battery life

While the laptop is very small, it comes with a surprisingly big battery unit of 48Wh. You would be happy to hear that it lasts for 13 hours and 47 minutes of Web browsing and 9 hours and 20 minutes of video payback. The test is performed with the Windows Better Performance option turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

4. The Input devices

Being a ThinkPad, we were expecting a good keyboard, but this thing just blew us away. Even though the laptop has a very thin form factor, the keyboard has a surprisingly long key travel along with very clicky feedback. This paired with the backlight and spill resistance makes it truly a ThinkPad keyboard. The touchpad is amazing as well, being very accurate and responsive. Next to it is where you will find the fingerprint reader.

1 reason NOT to buy the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano

1. The I/O and Upgradeability

All of the RAM on the laptop is soldered onto the motherboard, which means that you are stuck with whatever configuration you purchase it with. For the SSD storage, you get one M.2 PCIe x4 drive, which supports 42mm drives, giving you more options to pick, in terms of SSD size.

If you want to know how to upgrade the storage on the X1 Nano, we will leave our detailed teardown video below.

Unfortunately, with such a thin device, you lose on the I/O with the laptop only having an audio jack and two Thunderbolt 4 connectors.
