Acer Aspire 5 (A515-48M) review – good performer with Zen 3 CPUs and long battery life
Disassembly, upgrade options, and maintenance
In order to remove the bottom plate, you have to unscrew 10 Phillips-head screws. After that, you can start popping up the panel with a plastic tool.
The battery is a 54.6Wh unit. As always, the first thing to do is to detach the battery connector from the motherboard. The battery isn’t held in place with screws so it’s pretty easy to be taken out. Its capacity is enough for 11 hours and 7 minutes of Web browsing and 12 hours and 30 minutes of video playback.
The memory is soldered to the motherboard. However, the LPDDR4X-4266MHz RAM is working in a dual-channel mode which will boost the overall performance. The maximum amount of memory is 32GB which should be enough for most people. In terms of storage, there is a single M.2 slot compatible with Gen. 4 SSD. On the other hand, the slot is downgraded to Gen. 3 speeds due to AMD platform limitations.
The cooling system seems normal for a machine like this one. It has one fan and two heat pipes.
My experience with this model (the 7730U processor variant) is completely different. It’s very noisy, with an intense and sharp whining, the noisiest laptop I have ever seen, awful in that regard. If you have moderate to intense computational activities it’s unusable because of the noise.
Hey,
Do you still use the version 7730U? Is it still loud when using?
I am looking to buy, interested in your overall opinion so far with the usage of laptop.
