Acer Nitro 16 (AN16-51) review – great display and performance in one place

Verdict

The Acer Nitro 16 (AN16-51) is a real gem for people who don’t want to spend too much money on a gaming laptop. It has a stable base, and a comfortable backlit keyboard alongside an accurate touchpad. The design is typical for a gaming device with aggressive lines and “Lamborghini-like exhausts” on the back.

The 16″ IPS display with G-Sync support is a rare find in this price segment. It has a 1600p resolution and 96% sRGB color coverage. Thanks to our “Gaming and Web design” profile, the color accuracy reaches an average dE value of just 1.0 which is awesome! This makes the display suitable for content creation and color-sensitive work. The panel is also PWM-free so you can use it for long hours of work but as always, you have to take short breaks from time to time.

The performance of the laptop is very good. The thirsty Core i7-13700H is well-cooled and can maintain high frequencies and power limits. The same applies to the GPU – its core reaches just 67°C after 30 minutes of load. You can play heavy games on Ultra quality with high FPS. For example, in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, our machine is able to show 82FPS with maxed-out visuals.

In terms of extras, the laptop can offer a MUX switch, G-Sync support, Wi-Fi 6, and a good amount of ports including Thunderbolt 4 and USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2). The device doesn’t have many cons but we can mention the flimsy lid and the high noise when the Turbo mode is applied. The Acer Nitro 16 (AN16-51) is a true gaming machine with a great display, good cooling, powerful hardware, and a comfortable keyboard. The laptop becomes an even better deal when you add the pleasant price into the mix, the good battery life, and the adequate upgrade options.
