Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ monitor – Specs, Pros / Cons: The BIGGEST Accuracy Improvement We’ve Seen (5.5X)

The Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ might be the ultimate monitor for Gamers and Creators. It’s got modern features, including a 31.5-inch VA panel with a QLED backlight, a wickedly quick 240Hz refresh rate, and FreeSync Premium Pro support, the highest tier of VRR technology from AMD.

Thanks to the QLED backlighting, you get higher brightness than traditional LED-backlit monitors. When compared to standard LED backlighting found in LCD displays, QLED offers improvements in color accuracy and color coverage. This is thanks to quantum dots, a type of semiconductor nanocrystals that enhance the performance of traditional LED backlighting. QLED backlighting brings higher contrast and brightness, thanks to having multiple dimming zones.

However, don’t confuse them with OLED panels, since there are noticeable differences. OLED panels bring true black colors, and incredible contrast that is mathematically infinite. They are also more efficient, especially when using dark mode or having a black wallpaper, as the black color on an OLED panel is literally a turned-off pixel. What we’re here to tell you is that the Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ is a fantastic Creator monitor, with superb accuracy once we apply our Display Profiles.

Design and Connectivity

The Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ offers a great design that other monitors envy. While you can definitely see that this is a gaming monitor, thanks to the blue lighting on the back and the bottom bezel, it’s well placed and it’s not intrusive. It actually makes the monitor feel alive. On the back, there’s a glowing Odyssey logo, as well as a textured finish. The stand on the back includes Height adjustment, Swivel, as well as Tilt. With that, you can set up the monitor exactly how you’d like.  The curve is pretty pronounced, at 1000R, but it is to be expected, as a 31.5-inch panel does need a steeper curve to feel more immersive.

The port selection on the monitor includes one HDMI 2.0 port, two DisplayPort 1.4 ports, a single USB Type-B 3.0 Upstream port, two more USB 3.0 ports (this time these are Type-A Downstream ports), and an audio jack.

Display quality, Buy our profiles, Verdict

The Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ brings a 31.5-inch Quad HD screen (2560 x 1440), which calculates to a pixel density of 93.24 PPI, a pitch of 0.2724 x 0.2724 mm, and a Retina distance of 36.87 inches or 93.64 cm. From this distance, the human eye can’t distinguish individual pixels.

The correlated color temperature on a white screen after a Factory Reset in sRGB mode is 6910 K (Luminance 150 cd/m2 at 20% Brightness). The average gamma value is 2.18.

Color coverage

Here’s an illustration (Fig. 1). The whole “sail-shaped” map below consists of all the colors we can see, while the black crooked line shows all the colors from real-world scenes and nature around us.

Then, we’ve drawn some of the most important and interesting color spaces, compared to the colors the panel of Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ can show:

Standard/For Web: sRGB – widely used color space for most consumer devices, ideal for Web design and development
For Print: AdobeRGB – used in professional photo editing, graphic design, and print
For Photographers/Video Editors: DCI-P3 – used in high-end film production, post-production, and digital cinema
Premium HDR: Rec.2020 – the widest consumer ITU color standard, covering a massive 75.8% of the visible spectrum, a benchmark for premium HDR content

Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ: the yellow dashed triangle (– – – – – –) represents the range of colors this monitor can display. In our tests, we calculated the total color coverage of the monitor at 99% of the sRGB color gamut and 90% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

(Fig.1) Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ covers 100% of the Web colors (sRGB)

This means that if the Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ tries to show any color outside of its triangle, it will show the closest color to it that’s inside the triangle.

Color accuracy

Now let’s see how big is the difference between the real colors and the one you’ll see on the Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ. We measure that distance in DeltaE – the bigger the number, the more different they look.

For the next illustration, we’ve chosen 24 common colors like dark and light skin, blue sky, green grass, etc.

Values below 2.0 are considered suitable for color-sensitive work. Before our calibration of the Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ, the Average color accuracy was 6.8 dE (Fig. 2), and with our Web Design and Office Work profile, it lowered to 1.2 dE (Fig. 3). This is an INCREDIBLE 560% increase in accuracy, so the monitor is more than ready for Creator work.

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom-tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate (they may seem strange at first but after a few minutes our brain will start recognizing them as accurate ones – that’s how Health-Guard differs from alternatives like f.lux).

Pro Tip: As the Health-Guard profile simulates paper and has as accurate as possible colors, it could be a great tool for prepress designers!

Gaming and Movies

We also have a third Gaming and Movies profile, which regulates the black colors, making dark areas in games and movies appear more visible, thus giving you a better viewing experience. Shooting at your opponent first can be a make-or-break moment, so make sure you’re best prepared with our profile.

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

Verdict

The Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ is one gaming monitor that everybody can take advantage of, thanks to its many advantages. The Odyssey G7 offers a QLED VA panel, with a 31.5-inch diagonal and a Quad HD resolution. This results in a detailed image, as well as increased brightness and contrast (a large benefit of QLED technology).

The design of the monitor is very good, not only in terms of looks but in terms of functionality. The stand that it comes with offers very good adjustment, with Tilt, Swivel, and Height, so you can get the perfect position and keep the monitor at eye level. The port selection is very good, as you get an integrated USB hub. It has two USB ports, one HDMI port, two DisplayPorts, and an audio jack.

The good news keeps coming: the Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75TQ can handle Creator work very easily, especially for a gaming monitor. It brings 99% sRGB coverage and 90% DCI-P3 coverage. Now, the really funny stuff happens when we apply our Web Design and Office Work profile. With it, the monitor becomes 5.5X more accurate, as the dE value that we use to measure accuracy drops from 6.8 down to 1.2. This means that you can do any type of serious color work on it with no problem.

The rest of our profiles do different things. The Gaming and Movies profile really helps out the Odyssey G7, making dark scenes and environments much more visible, so you can detect enemies more easily and deal with them quickly. The 240Hz refresh rate, the 1ms response time, and the FreeSync Premium Pro support help out a lot too, giving you a fantastic gaming experience. The Pro tier of FreeSync introduces HDR support, which includes even higher contrast and more detail, for games and content that support it.

Last but not least, the Health Guard keeps Blue Light and PWM (Flickering) to a minimum, thus protecting your eyes and making sure you go to sleep on time.
