Specs overview

We start off with Intel Core i7-8705G which is based on the Kaby Lake G architecture (8th gen) with a total of 4 cores and 8 threads. Manufactured through a 14 nm process, it ticks at 3.10 GHz base frequency and can reach up to 4.10 GHz turbo speed. The specs sheet is complemented by 8MB last level cache, a dual-channel memory controller supporting DDR3L-1600 or DDR4-2400 and a TDP of 65 W. The integrated GPU here is AMD Radeon RX Vega M GL (Vega 870, 4GB HBM2) clocked at 931- 1011 MHz.

Now let’s cover the specs sheet of its opponent briefly. Intel Core i7-8750H is part of the 8th gen Coffee Lake-H architecture featuring six physical cores instead of the just four found on the Kaby Lake CPUs. Additionally, the base frequencies go up to 2.20 GHz, while the turbo speed can reach up to 4.10 GHz. Other specs include support for dual-channel DDR4-2666 memory, 9MB last level cache, 14nm FinFET manufacturing process, as well as TDP of 45W. As for the iGPU, here we see the Intel UHD Graphics 630 clocked at 300-1150 MHz.

Benchmarks

Results are from the Cinebench 20 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

For the purposes of this comparison, we have chosen to compare the performance of the two chips found in Dell XPS 15 9575 and ASUS TUF Gaming FX504 respectively. As you can see from the charts above, Intel Core i7-8750H outperforms its rival with around 36% when it comes to 3D rendering (tested with Cinebench 15). In addition, the former shows 15% faster results in the Adobe Photoshop test.

Conclusion

Taking into account the results both processors score in our benchmarks, Intel Core i7-8750H shows higher performance in 2 out of 2 tests compared to the i7-8705G option, therefore it has every right to be pronounced the winner in today’s battle.
