Acer Swift Go 16 (SFG16-71) review – Ready! Swift! Go!

Design and construction

Well, we can’t miss the opportunity to praise the Swift Go 16 (SFG16-71) for its design. It has sharp edges, flat surfaces, and round corners. This, together with the all-aluminum build results in a very premium-looking exterior.

In terms of dimensions, the laptop weighs 1.60 kg, which is great for a 16-incher. Its thickness is also not too bad – 14.9mm. With all of this portability, one would expect some shortcomings with the rigidity. However, this is definitely not the case, as we observed only a little bit of flex in the lid when we twisted it.

Unfortunately, it can’t be opened with one hand. However, once you move past 80-85° the rubber feet in the bottom part of the lid grip into the desk and lift the backside of the base from the ground. This provides more breathing room for the fans inside. As you can see, the bezels around the display are pretty thin. What is more impressive here is the camera, which has a 1440p video resolution, and comes with Temporal Noise Reduction.

Now, looking at the base, we are seeing a backlit keyboard, that comes with a NumberPad. Its key travel is not very long, but the feedback is relatively clicky. This leaves us satisfied with the typing comfort. In addition, the power button, which is located in the top-right part of the keyboard, doubles as a fingerprint reader.

This is good because it means that an eventual fingerprint reader won’t impede the space of the touchpad. Not only that, but Acer provided this notebook with a huge surface area. It not only has a fast response rate, but it also features a very smooth texture made out of OceanGlass. This is basically ocean-bound plastic. So it is not only comfortable but also good for the environment.

There are two speaker cutouts placed on the bottom part of the device. Furthermore, the bottom panel is home to the ventilation grill. It supplies cool air to the cooling fans. It is then exhausted as heat through a large vent on the back of the base – essentially blowing towards the bottom of the display.

Ports

On the left side, there are two Thunderbolt ports, followed by an HDMI 2.1 connector, and a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port. Then, on the right, you get a security lock slot, another USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, an Audio jack, and a MicroSD card slot.
