Apple has just revealed the latest version of macOS that goes by the name Mojave. The operating system boasts many new intriguing features which we can’t wait to cover in this article.

Dark Mode

Apple is finally adding a dark mode to macOS. In contrast to High Sierra (the last macOS) where only the menubar and dock could be transformed to a darkened color scheme, users can now enjoy all apps with darker colors. Of course, this doesn’t add any functionality – it is just much easier on the eyes and puts the focus on the content.

Dynamic desktop

Another interesting feature is the option for live wallpapers that change once in a while throughout the day. Apple only showed one example of such wallpaper that alters from day to night as time passes by. However, it is still uncertain whether you can add your own background or have to stick to Apple’s.

Desktop Stacks

Apple has also added a new feature called “stacks” that cleans up your cluttered desktop. Your desktop icons will be organized into folders dedicated to certain file types. In other words, you will have stacks dedicated to documents, images, movies, etc. Furthermore, users can customize the way this feature works and decide according to what parameters the documents are sorted.

Finder enhancements

Thanks to the brand new gallery view in finder you can go through previews of your files such as videos and photos. Apple has also added ways to view the file’s metadata so you will be able to see the EXIF data of the photo files and data such as resolution and bitrate of the video files.

New Apps (Apple News, Stocks, Voice Memos, Home)

The new macOS Mojave will be equipped with many new iOS apps available on the Mac for the first time. We are talking about Apple News, Stocks, Voice Memos, and Home.

Redesigned Mac App Store

Last year, the App Store for iOS was given a brand new redesign with a focus on the apps so users can find what they are looking for more easily. Now the Mac App Store has undergone the same upgrade with dedicated Discover, Create, Work, Play, and Develop tabs to facilitate the customers in their search.

Group FaceTime

Initially announced for iOS 12, Group FaceTime has now been brought to macOS Mojave too. Up to 32 participants can join using an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or even Apple Watch.

New screenshot options

The new operating system features more screenshot options and video recording capabilities.

Continuity Camera

Mac users are now able to capture images using their iPhone or iPad. Apple made a demonstration of how an iPhone can scan a document straight to a Mac.

Security and privacy enhancements

Security and privacy are of top priority to Mac OS Mojave. For starters, a user permission will be required in order to gain access to the camera, microphone or data such as location or contacts. In Safari, Intelligent Tracking Prevention helps block social media buttons and comment widgets in order to avoid being tracked by sites without your permission. Furthermore, Safari also presents a simplified system information based on users’ system configurations making it more difficult for companies to track them. On top of that, when you create new accounts, strong passwords can be generated, autofilled, and stored.
