Intel Core i7-8565U vs Intel Core i5-8300H – benchmarks and performance comparison
Intel’s ULV processors have made a great jump in performance in the recent years. However, in order to see exactly how big of an improvement they made we have to compare it to something very stable, yet similar. This makes the Core i5-8300H the perfect competitor on paper for the i7-8565U. Stay with us to see what happens when you put quad-core CPUs of different types side by side.

Specs overview
Here, the biggest difference whatsoever is the TDP – Core i7-8565U is rated at 15W, while the Core i5-8300H has a TDP of 45W. As we mentioned they share the same amount of cores/threads, however, the Core i7-8565U has a lower Base frequency 1.80 GHz (2.30 GHz of the Core i5-8300H), while the Turbo is higher – 4.60 GHz (4.00 GHz for the Core i5). Moreover, they have the same amount of cache – 8 MB.
However, the Core i5-8300H has the advantage of supporting more memory – 64GB vs 32GB for the ULV counterpart. Additionally, the Core i5-8300H can be paired with faster memory – up to 2667 MHz, while the Core i7-8565U supports only up to 2400 MHz. The Maximum Memory Bandwidth is also higher on the Core i5-8300H – 41.8 GB/s, compared to 37.5 GB/s.

Benchmarks
Interestingly, when Core i7-8565U is put in a laptop capable to supply enough power and having a decent cooling capacity it is able to match and at some point outscore the more powerhungry Core i5-8300H. However, the case is not exactly the same with all devices it is equipped on.
Results are from the Cinebench 20 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)
Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)
Conclusion
Since most of the time, Core i7-8565U is put on slim and light devices, which are not known for being powerhouses, we have to give the win to the Core i5-8300H. However, it’s worth noting that Photoshop tasks are working slightly faster on the ULV representative. Additionally, when you add the actual potential of the Core i7-8565U we start wondering why don’t more manufacturers implement it in their gaming devices.
