Design

The design of the XPS remains the same as the last generation, with a mostly aluminum construction. The lid and the bottom panel are made from metal, while the base is made of carbon fiber. This gives it a more textured finish that offers some grip, so your palms don’t slide around. Both laptops bring front-firing speakers, but on the other hand, don’t bring a NumPad, as even the bigger 17.3-inch machine doesn’t have one, instead bringing some of the largest speaker grills that we’ve seen.

The XPS 15 comes with one USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an SD card reader, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. On the other hand, the bigger XPS 17 comes with four  Thunderbolt 4 ports and the same SD card reader and audio jack.

WeightHeight

Dell XPS 17 97302.31 kg (5.1 lbs)8.67 – 13.15 mm

Display

The design of the laptops innovated the bezel-less screen, with very thin bezels around the display on both the 15 and 17-inch machines. Despite that, the top one has space to fit the webcam and an IR sensor for facial recognition. The XPS 15 and 17 come with two display options, both with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The base configuration of both laptops comes with a Full HD+ IPS panel with 500 nits of brightness, 100% sRGB coverage, and a 1650:1 contrast ratio, which offers deep colors and dark blacks. From there, things differ between the two devices. The XPS 15 comes with a 3.5K OLED screen with touch support, 400 nits of brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. As for the XPS 17, it has a 4K UHD+ IPS display with 500 nits of brightness and 100% Adobe RGB coverage.

Specifications and features

The XPS 15 comes with the Core i5-13500H, Core i7-13700H, and Core i9-13900H. On the XPS 17, only the Core i7 and Core i9 are available. All three CPUs are pretty similar to their 12th Gen counterparts, offering the same core and thread count, as well as cache size, but with higher clock speeds. In terms of graphics, both laptops offer RTX 40-series graphics, starting from the RTX 4050, and going as high as the RTX 4070. The XPS 17 also has the RTX 4080, while the XPS 15 gets the assistance of the Intel Arc A370M. Depending on the pricing of configurations with either the RTX 4050 or the Arc A370M, it would be a better option to go for the NVIDIA GPU, both thanks to the higher memory bandwidth and better drivers and the supposed higher performance of the RTX 4050.
