Steam is tightening the strings around store content and that’s actually a good thing
We just came across a forum post that details what Steam is planning some changes regarding store content. Soon developers will be required to upload only actual screenshots rather than artwork or pre-rendered images.
You can check out the whole post announcing the changes here and the post informing developers about those changes. In it, you will see the Steam staff explaining further that pre-rendered cinematic stills, awards, marketing copies etc. will not be allowed in the screenshot area. It should contain only actual in-game screenshots so that customers will get a better grasp of what they are buying and what the game really looks like when playing it.
Steam continues with an example of Dota 2, which is one of Valve’s games, explaining that even they are doing it the wrong way, hence including artwork instead of actual in-game footage. They are currently working on updating Dota 2’s page to give an example.
What are your thoughts on this change? Is it a step in the right direction or it won’t be of any help to the users? Give your thoughts in the comment section below.
