Acer Predator Helios 16 (PH16-71): Full Specs

Design

The Predator gets redesigned for another time. After a rough 2021 and a great 2022, the engineers over at Acer decided to reinvent the laptop once again. We have a sleek metal chassis with lights and all the good stuff. The bezels around the display are quite slim, while the predator logo appears only twice. It’s also small enough so it isn’t intrusive and actually blends really well. The backside extends further, housing some of the cooling components, in order to draw the heat away from the keyboard. It also has most of the outside RGB. In terms of dimensions, the laptop weighs 2.60 kg and has a profile of 26.90 mm.

The port selection offers one USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, a MicroSD card reader, a LAN port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Display

The laptop offers several QHD+ IPS displays, with either a 165Hz, a 240Hz, or a 250Hz refresh rate. The displays cover 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut and have a Mini LED backlighting, which improves the contrast and brightness. With the technology, darker colors like black appear very dark and deep, as well as causing less backlight bleed.

Specifications and features

The laptop is powered by either the Core i7-13700HX or the Core i9-13900HX with 16 and 24 cores, respectively. Both CPUs have a higher 55W power limit and offer integrated graphics, which can be helpful when you’re multitasking. For example, you can use it to render a video in the background, while playing a game on the main GPU, which is fantastic and doesn’t eat up the performance of the discrete graphics. You can pick between three GPUs, the RTX 4060, RTX 4070, and RTX 4080. The power limits are unspecified, but we expect to see high numbers, especially since there’s liquid metal on top. We generally like all the improvements that new gaming laptops bring to the table, albeit the prices are as high as they’ve ever been. These components are new, but even budget machines with an RTX 4050 come at very high prices.
