[Specs, Info, and Prices] The answer to the MacBook Air 13 is here with the new Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 (13.5″)

As the M1-powered MacBooks have been running wild and dominating the laptop performance charts. The M1 chip is super powerful and definitely deserves praise. Other manufacturers now have to step up and combat the MacBooks, or Windows could lose some valuable percentages in the laptop market. Well, we have Microsoft’s answer in the face of the Surface Laptop 4. It comes in two size variants, but for today we will focus on the smaller device with a 13.5-inch screen. As you well know, Surface devices are kind of like Apple’s, in a way that they present Microsoft’s vision of what Windows laptops should be.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 (13.5″).

Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 (13.5″): Full Specs

Design

The design is on par and definitely reflects the premium price tag. Surface devices have always had great build quality and the Surface Laptop 4 is continuing the trend as well. It has an aluminum unibody, which is super rigid and has sharp edges and rounded corners. The display is covered in glass, giving it a great deal of scratch resistance. The previous generation offered the choice between an aluminum and Alcantara base. The aluminum will be the more standard option, but the Alcantara is comfortable and reminds us of a steering wheel of a sports car. Also, there is very subtle Microsoft branding, which can be found on the back of the lid, centered of course. Weight and height are also quite manageable, sitting at 1.26 kg and 14.5mm, respectively.

Display

There is only one display option and it is a great one. The display has a diagonal of 13.5-inches and a 3:2 aspect ratio. The resolution is 2256×1504 (2K), which is quite high and will deliver punchy and vibrant images. If the display on the Surface Laptop 3 is the same, which seems like the case, then you should expect a great experience, as that panel had fantastic color coverage and accuracy, making it a dangerous weapon in the hands of a talented designer.

Specifications and features

The specifications make sense, considering the size of the laptop. The laptop probably won’t be more powerful than the M1-powered MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, but you won’t always need that kind of power. The laptop comes with the choice between AMD and Intel hardware. Another thing about these processors is how they have Surface Edition in their name, which means that they have been reworked and improved, according to Microsoft. This improves the single-threaded performance on Intel chips and the multi-threaded performance in AMD CPUs.  The Intel CPUs are part of the Tiger Lake family, with the options being the Core i5-1145G7 and the Core i7-1185G7. The AMD option is only one: the Ryzen 5 4680U.

The graphics are taken care of by the Iris Xe Graphics G7 and the Radeon RX Vega 6 (15W), which are also improved and made into Surface Edition. Features-wise, there is Thunderbolt 4 support for the Intel models and an Omnisonic speaker setup with Dolby Atmos, which is hidden behind the keyboard, eliminating the need for speaker grills. There are also Dual Far-Field studio microphones, which make call quality spectacular.
