Acer Aspire 3 (A315-24P) – Top 5 Pros and Cons

Contents

AMD is really fumbling with its processors, offering too many non-Zen 4 SKUs that carry the Ryzen 7000 monicker. This can only lead to confused consumers, and while we know the more tech-savvy people will do their research and spot the difference, we still think AMD should make it clearer about what you’re getting. That’s not to blame or put any shame on the Acer Aspire 3 (A315-24P), which tries to be as affordable as possible while utilizing the most recent available hardware. This means the Ryzen 3 7320U and the Ryzen 5 7520U, two Zen 2 processors with RDNA 2 integrated graphics. However, it’s the lower-end Radeon 610M, which has just 2 cores and doesn’t really showcase how good the architecture is.

Today we’re presenting you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the Acer Aspire 3 (A315-24P).

Acer Aspire 3 (A315-24P): Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the Acer Aspire 3 (A315-24P)

1. Battery life

Starting off with a bang, the 43Wh battery pack inside lasts for 12 hours and 25 minutes of Web browsing, or 13 hours and 53 minutes of video playback. That’s very good and means more than a full day’s worth of battery life. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

2. I/O

The port selection of the device includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, one USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port with Power Delivery and DisplayPort support, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

3. Display quality

The Full HD IPS display of the Aspire 3 won’t shock you with deep colors and standard-matching accuracy, however, it’s perfectly suitable for daily use, thanks to the comfortable viewing angles and 0 PWM usage. The panel has 258 nits of max brightness as well as a pretty high contrast ratio of 1350:1. Here are images at a 45-degree angle showing off the angles of the display.

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

4. Cooling

The laptop uses a very simple cooling setup with one heat pipe and one fan, which handles the Ryzen 3 7320U with ease.

Max CPU load

AMD Ryzen 3 7320U (15W TDP)0:02 – 0:10 sec0:15 – 0:30 sec10:00 – 15:00 min
Acer Aspire 3 (A315-24P)3.69 GHz @ 89°C @ 29W3.60 GHz @ 88°C @ 25W3.56 GHz @ 92°C @ 23W

The Ryzen 3 sustains high clock speeds (and temperatures) even after 15 minutes of torture, so the cooling definitely does a great job.

Comfort during full load

On the outside, you don’t really feel the heat that the CPU generates, as the base gets a hotspot of just 41.3°C. The one fan also doesn’t get noisy or annoying at all.

1 reason NOT to buy the Acer Aspire 3 (A315-24P)

1. Upgradeability

The upgradeability of the laptop has been cripled a bit, which is weird considering the 15.6-inch form factor and the space on the inside. All the LPDDR5 RAM is soldered but works in dual-channel and runs at 5500MHz. Storage-wise, there’s one SSD slot that fits Gen 3 drives.

Here is our detailed teardown video, which shows how to access the single M.2 slot.
