IIYAMA Red Eagle preview – dirt cheap FreeSync-enabled gaming monitors
IIYAMA is one of the few manufacturers solely focused on one part of the market. In this case – gaming and medical monitors as well as TVs. Today we’re going to take a look two of their Red Eagle offerings in the gaming monitors section.
First off we have the GB2488HSU-B2 and as we already mentioned, the device is part of their Red Eagle lineup. The monitor has a 24-inch screen with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080). What makes this product interesting are the technologies used in it. The GB2488HSU-B2 uses a TN matrix which means that the response time is shorter (1 ms) compared to that of an IPS panel. This gives you a great advantage in FPS and racing games where each hundredth of a second counts.
Another aspect worth considering is the refresh rate of 144 Hz. This means that the monitor supports up to 144 frames per second as long as your GPU is compatible with dual-link DVI/DisplayPort and can handle the image rendering. For the record, the maximum fps count that conventional monitors support is 60.
The last thing we’re going to talk about is the support of FreeSync. This technology has been developed by AMD and it is very similar to NVIDIA’s G-Sync. Perhaps some of you aren’t familiar with it so feel free to reqd our article explaining what the AdaptiveSync technology is.
The second model is GB2788HS-B1. The main difference between the two devices is their size. This one is a 27-inch monitor with a maximum brightness of 300 cd/m2 (the smaller one’s is 350 cd/m2). Both displays boast the so-called Black Tuner technology. It allows you to adjust the brightness of all the shades of black thus making the content you’re looking at much clearer. Anyway, all that we’ve said about the 24-inch model applies for GB2788HS-B1 as well.
Both monitors have two built-in speakers. They are rated at 3 watts which means that you can enjoy fairly loud sound without having to plug in an external audio system. However, if you’re a fan of headsets or you just don’t want to bug the people around you, you can always plug in a pair – the jacks are located near the USB port, at the back of the monitor.
