    1. Remove the bottom plate

This laptop’s bottom panel is held in place by 9 Phillips-head screws. After that start the prying process from the hinge side or the front side, where you can see some little creases.

    2. Battery

When you are inside, first unplug the battery connector. By the way, it has a 42Wh capacity and you can remove it by unscrewing three screws.

    3. Memory and storage

Now, one of the strong points of the Vostro 5490 – upgradability. You can plug up to 1TB of PCIe x4 NVMe M.2 drive and up to 2TB of 2.5″ SATA drive. While there are 4GB or 8GB already soldered to the motherboard, you can also expand it with up to 16GB of DDR4 memory with speeds of 2666 MHz.

    4. Cooling system

Last but not least – the cooling solution. It comprises one rather big heat pipe that goes all the way through the CPU and the GPU to a heat sink. It is interesting that the fan is also rather big for the size and purpose of the laptop, plus the fact that there is a metal plate above the GeForce MX250.
