Inside HP Omen 17 (2019) – disassembly and upgrade options

HP Omen 17 (2019) is certainly not following the thin and light gaming laptop trend. This gives its manufacturer the ability to play around with all that free space inside. And they surely gave everything they have – take a look.

Check out all HP Omen 17 (2019) prices and configurations in our Specs System or read more in our In-depth Review.

1. Remove the bottom plate

In order to remove the bottom plate, you need to unscrew all 10 Phillips-head screws. After that everything is made super easy, as the edge pops open and you just need to pry the rest up. This reveals a well-used internal space – everything has its place in an organized chassis.

2. Battery

HP Omen 17 (2019)’s battery is equipped with a 70 Wh battery pack. It is secured by four Phillips-head screws and easily pops out due to its connector design – it directly contacts with the motherboard when it is mounted.

3. Memory and storage

Memory-wise there are two RAM DIMMs, supporting up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM working at 2666 MHz. As of the storage – well, you can rarely see this on a laptop, but it not only supports RAID 0, through its two M.2 PCIe slots, but it also has support for Optane H10 drives.

4. Cooling system

Remember we said, that HP had the opportunity to play with a lot of free space? Well, this is the result – two incredibly big blower-type fans are extracting the heat out of the heatsinks and quietly dissipating it into the environment. A couple of heat pipes are shared between the two chips. Additionally, there is one cooling the VRMs, the memory, and the GPU itself. All of this is complemented with a rather large metal plate.

What is the name and product number of this model? Is 64GB ram support real? The maximum ram capacity should be 32GB.

This laptop have 2 M.2 slots. Can I install two Samsung 970 Evo 2TB and do RAID 0? If I cannot do RAID because the mobo does not suppoert it, which of the two slots is the primary and secondary for use a bootable? Can you put 2 M.2 2TB and use both as bootable and storage? Is it possible to make the 2.5 drive to be bootable? Can I put a 2.5 SSD Samsung 860 QVO 4TB? Reading its memory specifications will this Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32GB 3000MHz CL18 (2x16GB) be compatible with this Omen 17t? Is it possible… Read more »

You can do RAID 0. The right slot is primary by default but makes no difference as you can change it in the BIOS. You can use either as boot and storage. You can make the 2.5 bootable and you can put the 4tb there. Nope – 2666 ddr4 so dim – you can do 2×16 or 2×32. I”ve done 2×16. You can not push 240 hz on 99% of games even with 2080 so no point in 240 hz. 4k is ok but if you game 60 hz wont do so just stick with the 1080p 144hz g sync… Read more »

The 500 GB version only has ONE M.2 SSD Slot so you can’t install a second one if you got the 1 SSD with it. I feel like I got scammed, I wish I at least had to option to install my own SSD if I already had one.

Hello there. It’s a bit old review of the laptop but I’ll try regardless. Just bought the exact laptop wit 512nvme and 1TB sata installed, the second slot for nvme is available and I have already put a 512 Sams 970 in it. My question is in regarding of RAID0 with this configuration. In the BIOS(F20, latest) there is access to IntelRapidStorage setting but it sees ONLY the sata drive, the M2’s are not even mentioned. I also can’t find any options similar to AHCI-RAID type of controlled selection. Could you describe hw can I make RAID0 on two M2’s,… Read more »
