Quick look at Coolpad Torino S – first impressions, camera, performance
Yet another phone that we shall review is Coolpad Torino S. It was announced in the beginning of this year, and recently became available on the market. Before testing it, however, we would like to share our first impressions in this brief article. Once you lay your hands on this device, you will be surprised by its design and compact body. It is only 7.9 mm thick, and weighs just 119 grams. Holding and working with the phone with a single hand is really comfortable thanks to the 4.7″ display. On the other hand, the back is slightly rounded so that it may match the curve of your palm. Do bear in mind, however, that the surface is slightly slippery, which is not that big of a problem because of the reasonable dimensions. Additionally, no fingerprints are to be found on the surface, or at least this was the case with the white version we received.
Speaking of the back, we can’t but mention the available fingerprint scanner. Its shape is round and is positioned below the camera. From what we’ve gathered so far, it is quite fast and accurate. You can also use it for other actions not related to the unlocking of your screen. Perhaps fingerprint scanners will become more and more part of mid-range devices, but for now the presence of such a component in an affordable modle is a rarity.
The quad-core Snapdragon 410 mobile CPU ensures the performance of Torino S, and its combination with 2 GB of RAM provides smooth operation with menus. We’ve met this Qualcomm chip before but we shall put it to the test once more in all benchmarks that we use. Here are the results we got from a computing and a graphics test.
This model features Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and Coolpad’s UI. The latter brings some additional and useful functions such as drawing a symbol that serves as a shortcut to certain apps. Additionally, the phone offers a good number of pre-installed apps such as WPS Office, Coolpad remote control and others.
The main 8MP camera comes with an LED flash, autofocus and an aperture value of f/2.0. It also has Full HD video recording. Its menu offers a lot of manual settings such as white balance, ISO, shutter speed exposure compensation and others. In the near future we shall publish a dedicated article on the camera capabilities of this phone. For the time being you can enjoy the first couple of photos we took with it and see for yourself.
