[Specs and Info] ASUS Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip (CX5501, 11th Gen Intel) – Chromebook for gaming

While Google already closed its Stadia Cloud Gaming service, it doesn’t mean that it will stop trying to work with other partners to enter the space with Chromebooks that are specially made for this purpose, offering high refresh rate displays and comfortable keyboards, so you can get your game on anywhere if there’s good internet, of course. Today we have the Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip, a 15-inch Chromebook with Tiger Lake hardware from 2021 and good looks which functions well as a standalone device, without the cloud gaming aspect.

Today we’re giving you a quick overview of the ASUS Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip (CX5501, 11th Gen Intel).

ASUS Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip (CX5501, 11th Gen Intel): Full Specs

Design

The laptop has a Mineral Grey finish over the metal lid and plastic chassis, which looks good and pairs well with the black ASUS logo and orange accents. The design is similar to some Vivobooks, out there, with a flat shaped lid and base, round corners, and chamfered edges, which improve the comfort, as you don’t have a sharp edge against your wrist when using it. One area where we’re more surprised in a negative way is the weight, as the laptop clocks in at 1.95 kg, while having a profile of 18.5 mm. Considering the hardware that’s inside, we think it’s absolutely insane, as the laptop should be considerably lighter, especially when you factor in the convertible aspect and how some people might want to use the device as a tablet, and a nearly 2 kg tablet will feel heavy and cumbersome in hand.

On the sides, we have the ports, which include one USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, an HDMI 2.0a port, a MicroSD card reader, a 3.5 mm audio jack, which feels pretty complete. There are also stereo speakers on the bottom panel, but if you ever fold away the laptop in tent mode, you get them to fire toward you. The units are provided and certified by Harman/Kardon, which ASUS partners with regularly when it comes to laptop audio.

Display

The Full HD IPS display that we have here comes with a 144Hz refresh rate, so you can have a quality gaming experience. The panel is pretty standard, with 250 nits of peak brightness and around 50% sRGB coverage.

Specifications and features

The Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip is powered by the Tiger Lake U-series. The base configuration comes with the Core i3-1115G4, with 2 cores and 4 threads. From there, you can get the Core i5-1135G7 and the Core i7-1165G7, both with 4 cores and 8 threads. Looking at the CPU landscape in 2023, it would feel like this isn’t enough, however, under ChromeOS, almost any CPU does well and offers a snappy user experience. There are no discrete graphics, so you rely on the Iris Xe Graphics G4 and G7, depending on which CPU you go for. As the laptop relies solely on the cloud for its gaming, you need a stable connection to the Internet and without a LAN port, Wi-Fi’s all you got. You get Wi-Fi 6 dual-band support. The laptop comes with up to 16GB of RAM, as well as up to 512GB of SSD storage, which feels totally fine for a Chromebook.
