The Price Apple Will Pay to OpenAI for Integrating GPT-4o into Siri? $0.

It is often stated that you never work for exposure. However, Open AI clearly didn’t listen, as according to a Bloomberg article, that’s exactly the plan for the ChatGPT-Siri integration that was part of Apple’s overall Apple Intelligence announcement. Apple went in detail about the integration and the privacy concerns that surround the partnership (sending your data to Open AI servers). In short, they’ll cover your IP address and any other identifier, so Open AI isn’t able to build a profile of you to tie your requests together.

What they intentionally missed to disclose were the financial terms of the partnership. Turns out, there are no finances involved, as it’s a mutual partnership that will supposedly help both companies. The ChatGPT name will appear on the iPhone, MacBook, and iPad devices across different menus and settings, thus promoting the service (which has a $20-a-month subscription tier that allows file processing, more knowledge, and image generation).

On the other hand, Apple is getting one of the best AI chatbots to help out the other Apple Intelligence services, at least until Apple gets their proprietary AI models up to par with Open AI’s. Apple is also keen on working with other companies to use their chatbots, including Google’s Gemini. Apple is looking to create a new revenue stream by partnering with AI companies that monetize their services on iPhones and iPads, as with every payment, Apple gets a small cut.
