Genesis KRYPTON 700 G2 review – comfortable and highly customizable gaming mouse

When it comes to gaming, a good mouse is one of the essential gadgets that every gamer needs. What are the main features and extras that are making a particular mouse a gaming product? First of all, if you want to be successful in your favorite game (no matter if it’s an FPS, RTS, RPG, etc), the mouse that you’re using should be comfortable for you. Of course, that is related to personal preferences and the best solution is to test the device in some local stores.

Aside from that, built quality is always important – no one likes squeaky sounds coming from the mouse while using it. Also, build quality is related to things like grip during usage, overall feel for the mouse while holding it, click sound, clicking feedback, and longevity for the whole package. Last but not least, the price is always important.

In this article, we’re going to review the KRYPTON 700 G2 – a gaming mouse that doesn’t cost a fortune but has a lot of features to offer. At least to us, the mouse looks good, it has clean design that is gamer-ish and stealthy at the same time. If you turn off the RGB illumination, it can be used anywhere, even in the office, and probably no one can tell that this is a gaming product.

At first glance, the device has a lot of buttons, it has a slightly curved space for the thumb (for better grip) as well as a dedicated hump for the ring finger which can be probably appreciated by people who have bigger hands.

So far so good, the mouse looks and feels nice at a touch, and the official specs look promising for this kind of price tag. Let’s see how good is the KRYPTON 700 G2.

What’s in the box?

KRYPTON 700 G2 comes in a normal-looking box and the device is well-protected by transparent plastic around it. Inside the package, you’ll find the mouse (what a surprise), additional gliding pads, and a manual.

Design and construction

As we said earlier, the mouse can be considered as a gaming product when you use the RGB illumination, but if your turn this feature off, it looks like a good normal mouse with a slick design that can be used even in a working environment. Actually, the backlight implementation isn’t “overdosed” – there is a thin glowing stripe that wraps the mouse from one side to the other and that’s all. It looks pretty good and the lightning is programmable in the dedicated software. Oh, yes, the logo is glowing as well.

KRYPTON 700 G2 doesn’t feel cheap at all, it seems like a well-built product, it has a nice and grippy feel because of the rubberized surface. It looks like this mouse is meant for right-handed gamers especially if you tend to use a palm or fingertip grip. The braided cable is 2 meters long and it feels sturdy. The USB connector is thick and big but that’s not important at all.

Usage, Features, Setup, Software and Testing

As we said a bit earlier, this mouse is suitable for right-handed gamers but if you’re a left-handed person, well, it’s not exactly unusable but probably you can find a better mouse for your needs. Clicking and moving around feels fluid – the buttons don’t produce a loud sound which is good and leads to better comfort during gaming if you don’t use headphones. Gliding is definitely good in fast-paced shooters like CS:GO or Call Of Duty: Warzone. Now, the mouse weighs 96 grams which isn’t a lot but there are lighter mouses out there. On the other hand, these are personal preferences, some of you may like a lighter mouse while other gamers may prefer to feel more weight in their hand while playing games.

The grip is always there because of the rubberized finish, the shape of the mouse is comfortable (well, at least for us) and after some hours of playing Call Of Duty: Warzone there was no discomfort in the thumb or in the ring finger. Clicking with the two main buttons feels good – they are responsive and they don’t produce a loud click sound which is great if you like your mouse as silent as possible. The same goes for the other buttons, they are well-positioned, using them feels natural, and the overall experience is solid. The forward and backward buttons on the left side of the mouse are big enough for normal usage and they are placed higher enough so people with big hands (in this case – thumb) perhaps will not press accidentally this pair of buttons. The surface of the mouse isn’t causing “sweaty hands” but maybe during a hot summer, things can be different.

KRYPTON 700 G2 offers 8 programmable buttons – the usual left and right buttons, the scroll, two buttons (placed behind the scroll) for switching between different types of DPI settings, there are two “forward and backward” buttons on the left side of the device, and there is a “fire” button. All the buttons are programmable via the dedicated software and they can be assigned to a different function compared to their default purpose. The most interesting button of the bunch is the “fire” one – this fella can be set to have the same functionality as one of the three main buttons (left click, right click, or scroll), it can be used for multiple shots, or you can assign it as a key on the keyboard. This button is placed in the right spot and you can easily press it fast with your pointer finger – it feels natural after some time.

The two DPI buttons are used for selecting 6 custom DPI settings that can be tuned via the mouse’s software. You got six sliders and you can fine-tune the DPI for different situations – maybe if you switch from a sniper rifle to a regular assault rifle this extra can be quite useful because the zoom levels of the abovementioned weapons are non-identical. The mouse has mechanical switches and the manufacturer is claiming “a lifespan of up to 20 million clicks” but the test of time will show if that is possible.

The software allows you to modify settings like acceleration, pointer speed, scroll speed, double click speed, polling rate, etc. People who love RGBs will not be disappointed. As we said earlier, the big stripe and the logo have a backlight and they are tunable as well. In the dedicated app, you can find settings like “7 color breath”, “Full lighted”, “Breathing”, “Wave”, brightness level, and breathing speed. You can set a custom light color which is good.

Moreover, the mouse has a built-in memory, so you can save all these settings (to one of five different profiles) in the mouses’ memory. This means you don’t have to worry about setting up all these sliders and options every time you are on a different computer. Or maybe you can go to a tournament and once again, everything is “plug and play” because your preferences are already in the built-in memory of the KRYPTON 700 G2.

The sensor of the device (Pixart PAW3333) is doing its job well – when you find the best DPI and mouse speed settings (as well as the other additional extras from the software) you can aim and shoot precisely and fast. In our opinion, DPI above the 1500-2000 range is way too high for normal usage but that comes down to personal needs and preferences. Sure, there are better sensors, but for that kind of price, this one is a good choice.

Verdict

Comfortable and highly customizable gaming mouse – this describes best the KRYPTON 700 G2. The device’s price is pleasant and it offers a lot of bang for the money. When it comes to dimensions and weight, this product is positioned somewhere in the middle – normally sized and it’s not too heavy. Probably this makes it suitable for most people and for multi-purposes. The mouse has a nice grippy feel, the build quality is good and the device feels almost like an expensive mouse when it comes to the quality of materials.

Comfort during gaming is crucial and KRYPTON 700 G2 doesn’t disappoint – its shape and design lead to a comfortable gaming experience. You have a grip while gaming, you can place all your fingers on the mouse comfortably, it has dedicated areas for the thumb and the ring finger so gliding around is an easy and fluent process. Clicking seems good – the two main buttons are responsive and not loud (and that applies to all other buttons as well). We got 8 buttons and all of them are smartly positioned  – after some time, using them feels natural and easy.

All the buttons are programmable thanks to the dedicated app and we have zero complaints in this regard. The software has a lot of options that can be tuned – you can play with the backlight and its colors, you have 6 presets for custom DPI settings that can be changed on the fly via the two DPI buttons, you have access to things like mouse acceleration, pointer speed, double click speed, etc. The fire button is a nice feature because it can be quite useful for some of you because it can be assigned to produce multi shots (you can enter fire times and delay too) and maybe this can be handy for some online shooters (for snipers or for some AR rifles that lack automatic fire mode).

Using the mouse in games is a butter smooth experience, you just have to find the best settings for you and after that, you can aim and shoot precisely. Overall, the KRYPTON 700 G2 offers a solid gaming experience. It has a lot of customization options, the software is user-friendly and has tons of extras, the mouse has a backlight, its proportions and design are good enough for comfortable usage, and last but not least – the price is a pleasant surprise. A solid gaming mouse that doesn’t cost a lot – this is the KRYPTON 700 G2.
