NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M – benchmarks and gaming tests

And now it’s time to see if the GTX 950M is the will live up to its predecessor, the GTX 850M. Just like last year, the GTX 950M is placed in the upper-mid range segment. It was announced last month and now we have one of the first notebooks offering the GPU on our hands and in our case, it’s the ASUS N751JX laptop. It features the GTX 950M with 2GB DDR3 dedicated memory. Practically, nothing has changed in this year’s model, except the graphics card.

Enough with the notebook, we are here to talk about the newly announced GTX 950M GPU. It uses the same GM107 graphics chip that can be found in last years GTX 850M, 860M and even in this year’s GTX 960M. It’s based on the new Maxwell architecture with 28nm manufacturing process and can be equipped with either GDDR5 memory or with DDR3 (which is the variant we are testing right now). The GPU is clocked at 914 MHz and can go up to 1124 MHz (at least according to GPU-Z, as you can see on the screenshot below). Simply put, we can easily say that the GTX 950M is quite similar to the GTX 850M, but we can’t expect bigger performance over last year’s GTX 850M as this GPU is mainly optimized towards power-efficiency. Other notable features worth mentioning are 640 CUDA cores, 16 ROPs and 40 texture units, but most importantly, the L2 cache size is now 2MB for the GM107 GPU. You can see all the benchmark and gaming tests below.

The GPU of the laptop is exactly the same as the current review. Further on the cpu is also enough for gaming, as it is the 4th generation. The 8gb of ram is the minimum you need for gaming. Believe me if you need more ram, you have to have a good reason. If you are gaming and have a background program, it’s better to have 16gb of ram. The performance will be much better. But if your main goal is gaming, the minimal expectation I recommend is 8gb. If you are using more background programs I will definitely go… Read more »

the 950m can run any existing game ,but not expect huge fps. With an powerfull cpu and at least 8gb ram it can run everything. If you are hardcore gamer ,you should focus on 860m,960m or the top gpu cards 970m/980m.But again ,with that config you can play any game with very good fps.
