ASUS ROG Strix G18 (G814, 2023) review – as good as portable gaming gets
Temperatures and comfort, Battery Life
Max CPU load
In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering.

ASUS ROG Strix G16 (G614, 2023) | 4.31 GHz @ 3.48 GHz @ 74°C @ 172W | 4.11 GHz @ 3.39 GHz @ 83°C @ 157W | 3.82 GHz @ 3.27 GHz @ 86°C @ 131W |
Like the 16-inch model, the ROG Strix G18 (G814, 2023) is really hitting those numbers. Clock speeds higher than 4.00 GHz in extreme workloads are pretty uncommon for laptops. However, this one doesn’t bat an eye.

The situation with the graphics card is pretty similar to almost every device we’ve tested with the RTX 4070. It manages to draw about 100W of power for the entire board but fails to come near the 140W TGP stated by the manufacturer. Yet again, the clock speeds suggest that the device is doing just fine. Overheating is also out of the question since this GPU runs at only 63°C after half an hour of gameplay.
Gaming comfort
Due to the low graphics card temperature (and the overall good cooling setup), the laptop doesn’t get too loud during gaming. In addition, the external temperature is not too high either, with the warmest spot being well over arms reach (and still below 40°C).
Battery
Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with. This device’s 90Wh battery pack lasts for 10 hours of Web browsing, or 8 hours and 35 minutes of video playback.
