[Comparison] Intel Core i5-1235U vs Core i7-1165G7 – the Core i5 is a clear favorite
A comparison between a new Core i5 vs an older Core i7 chip will never get old, especially when it can have repercussions on your purchasing decisions. Today we have the Core i5-1235U, which brings a brand new approach to laptop computing, with a hybrid architecture. This leads to high core counts, which then result in very good performance numbers even from a 15W CPU. Going against it is one of the best ULV CPUs of last year, as the Core i7-1165G7 managed to deliver on both performance and battery life, thanks to its modest 4-core, 8-thread setup.
Today we are comparing the Core i5-1235U against the Core i7-1165G7.

CPU benchmarks
As you can see from the results below, the 12th Gen CPU makes quick work of its previous-gen relative, scoring 34% higher in Cinebench 20, while also being 1.3 seconds quicker in Adobe Photoshop.
Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)
Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)
Conclusion
The performance increase from last year to this year is pretty astonishing and makes any Alder Lake laptop worth considering over an offering with Tiger Lake. The only area where Tiger Lake might offer an advantage is with the pricing, as laptops with these 11th Gen ULV CPUs will plummet down, as stores will want to clear their shelves quickly, once the market fully switches from 11th Gen to 12th Gen.
