Lenovo Yoga 9i (14″, 2022) – Top 5 Pros and Cons

The Lenovo Yoga 9i is back in business, after a rough 2021 filled with quad-core Tiger Lake processors and an innovative touchpad that didn’t really contribute a lot. The 2022 model comes with a more standardized design, which follows other Yoga laptops. The laptop carries the Alder Lake P-series processors with a 28W base TDP, which is decent sweet spot, however, cooling will be detrimental.

Today we present you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the Lenovo Yoga 9i (14″, 2022).

Lenovo Yoga 9i (14″, 2022): Full Specs / In-depth Review

3 reasons to BUY the Lenovo Yoga 9i (14″, 2022)

1. Design and build quality

The laptop has a stunning design and it’s entirely made from metal. There are two color options, but our device had an Oatmeal finish, which looks quite good. The sides of the laptop are rounded and have a glossy finish, which definitely makes for a luxurious appearance. In terms of weight and height, the Yoga 9i weighs one and a half kilos and has a profile of 16.50 mm. In terms of rigidity, the device is excellent. The lid has a glass cover on the display, which offers extra resilience. The base is quite tough as well, showing next to no flex when twisted.

2. Display quality

There are several display options, but we settled for a 2.8K OLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. It has excellent viewing angles, providing a clear picture regardless of where you’re standing, a peak brightness of 399 nits as well as 100% sRGB and 100% DCI-P3 coverage.

The color accuracy also gets improved when using our Design and Gaming profile, lowering the dE value down to 1.5. Here are the results of our test with the stock settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).

Buy our profiles

Since our profiles are tailored for each individual display model, this article and its respective profile package are meant for Lenovo Yoga 9i (14″, 2022) configurations with a 14.0″ LEN140WQ+ (LEN8A98) (2880 x 1800p) OLED panel.

In addition to receiving efficient and health-friendly profiles, by buying LaptopMedia's products you also support the development of our labs, where we test devices in order to produce the most objective reviews possible.

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

3. Cooling

The cooling setup of the laptop includes two heat pipes and two fans, which is surprising considering the light nature of the device.

Max CPU load

Intel Core i7-1260P (28W TDP)0:02 – 0:10 sec0:15 – 0:30 sec10:00 – 15:00 min
Lenovo Yoga 9i (14″, 2022)3.12 GHz @ 2.56 GHz @ 78°C @ 62W2.82 GHz @ 2.34 GHz @ 88°C @ 50W1.98 GHz @ 1.78 GHz @ 64°C @ 28W

The CPU gets a nice spike in wattage, maintaining 62W for the first 10 seconds and 50W for the next 20 seconds. In long runs, it maintains its base speed of 28W, while being cool.

Temperatures and comfort

Since we have a dual-fan setup, noise can get quite high when under extreme load. On the other hand, the base temperature isn’t high at all, at 41°C.

2 reasons NOT to buy the Lenovo Yoga 9i (14″, 2022)

1. Battery life

The laptop’s 75Wh battery pack lasts for 7 hours and 13 minutes of Web browsing, or 6 hours and 56 minutes of video playback, which isn’t as high as we would have wanted it to be, considering the capacity is quite high. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

2. Upgradeability

The Lenovo Yoga 9i comes with soldered memory, with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM that works at 5200 MHz. In terms of storage, there’s only one M.2 slot for Gen 4 SSDs.

Here is our teardown video, which shows how to access the internals of the laptop.
