ASUS ExpertBook B5 OLED (B5602) review – an office device with an OLED display

Design and construction

This notebook has a 16-inch display, but it doesn’t mean that it will be heavy. The starting weight of the product is only 1.40 kg, while the profile is 19.9mm. This is possible thanks to the magnesium-aluminum alloy material used for the body panels.

Its lid is quite flexy because the material is super thin. On the other hand, the base is surprisingly sturdy. Its matte surface finish is a big enemy to fingerprints, which is great.

By the way, the lid can be opened with one hand. Interestingly, only the side bezels are thin. This leaves the top and especially the bottom one to be a bit thick. On the bright side, there is an HD Web camera with a privacy shutter and an IR face recognition scanner. Furthermore, you get an optional Full HD shooter.

As you can see, the ErgoLift mechanism is back, as the rubber feet on the lid’s back lift the backside of the base from the ground. This provides a good amount of fresh air to the fans.

Moving to the base, we find the backlit keyboard. It sports a NumberPad, as well as some highlighted keys on the left-hand side. We are pretty happy with the comfort of typing as the machine has long key travel and clicky feedback.

Its touchpad is absolutely huge. Thankfully, it is accurate and its tracking is fast enough to make for a quite seamless user experience.

Here, the bottom panel is home to the speaker cutouts and the ventilation grills. The ExpertBook B5 OLED (B5602) is quite efficient when it comes to cool air accessibility. Respectively, the hot air is being exhausted through a vent in between the base and the lid.

Ports

On the left side of the device, you get two Thunderbolt 4 connectors, followed by a LAN port, an HDMI 2.0b connector, and a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) port. Then, the right side houses a Kensington Nano lock slot, a MicroSD card slot, a USB Type-A 2.0 port, an Audio jack, and the Power button, which doubles as a fingerprint reader.
