Lenovo ThinkBook 16 Gen 4+ review – near silent business laptop with metal build and good battery life

Design and construction

This is a typical modern Lenovo business notebook that comes with a well-known dual-tone color scheme (Arctic grey). On the front, the device looks similar to the Lenovo ThinkBook 16p Gen 4 except for the fact that the fella in front of us is thinner. The aluminum build with an anodized finish feels premium. The machines with 1200p displays are slightly thicker (16.9 mm) than their sibling with 1600p panels (16.5 mm). The starting weight is 1.8 kilos.

The lid is stable for the most part, you can flex it a bit but it’s super spongy at all. You can also open it with a single hand and the unit is a bit bouncy when you release it.

The thin bezels around the panel correspond to the high-quality build.

There is a slight protrusion on the top of the lid for easier opening. The notch is also the home of an optional 1080p IR camera with a privacy shutter. The base model is a 720p iteration, and there is a 1080p variant too. Both have a shutter but they lack the IR feature.

As you can see, here we have a 180-degree hinge. The base is sturdy and we spot a tiny bit of bends between the touchpad and the Space key and in the section around the Arrow keys.

The spill-resistant keyboard has a NumPad which is probably mandatory for an office laptop. The board is comfortable for typing because the keycaps have decent travel and clicky feedback. The Arrow keys are big and the power button has a built-in fingerprint reader (option). The touchpad has a large glass surface – it offers effortless gliding and very good accuracy.

Flipping the laptop upside down reveals the rubber feet, a ventilation grille, two speaker cutouts, and a Novo button hole. The hot air is pushed through a vent on the back that aims at the hinge. Under heavy stress, some amount of heat makes its way to the panel.

Ports

On the left, there is a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port with data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 support, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port with an Always On function, an HDMI 2.1 connector (for up to 4K 60Hz external displays), a Thunderbolt 4 port (supports data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0, and DisplayPort 1.4 functions), and a 3.5 mm Audio combo jack. The right side houses a Kensington Nano Security Slot, LAN, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port,  a 4-in-1 SD card reader, and a USB 2.0 port that is hidden behind a small cap.
