Lenovo ThinkCentre Neo 50q Gen 4 Review: A Quiet, Upgradable Mini PC In The Palm Of Your Hand

It wasn’t long ago when mini PCs were considered slow and in general not really good. Thanks to the hardware advancements in laptops, however, mini PCs have stepped up a lot, offering a lot more performance for something as small as a box of chocolates. Lenovo feels confident enough to offer a mini PC workstation, and even brand it as a ThinkCentre, solidifying its place as a PC that can handle pretty much any heavy workload.

The ThinkCentre Neo 50q Gen 4 (it’s not the actual 4th year of this device), comes with 13th Gen Intel processors, like the Core i3-1215U, which is more timid and oriented towards simpler office work, writing emails, browser work, online meetings. Then there’s the Core i5-13420H, which really spices up the machine and allows it to achieve some pretty amazing feats for its small size.

With it, you can easily tackle video rendering tasks, as well as other more intensive workloads. The two CPUs are backed by Intel’s UHD integrated graphics (surprisingly, the Core i3 CPU has more GPU cores), as well as up to 32GB of DDR4 memory (two SO-DIMM slots).

What’s in the box?

First of all, Lenovo delivers you a much bigger box than what you actually need for the ThinkCentre itself, however, it’s simply because there’s a lot more stuff inside rather than just the machine and a power brick. First of all, you get a bracket with screws so you can mount the box behind a monitor, utilizing the VESA mounting holes (both 100 mm and 75 mm) as a place to secure the ThinkCentre in place. You also get a free mouse and a ThinkBoard (it’s just a regular keyboard, but Lenovo should seriously use this name). There’s a Wi-Fi antenna that’s super easy to install on the back (there’s still a LAN port, after all this is still a serious workstation machine, no matter how small it is).
