Lenovo Yoga 6 (13, Gen 8) review – compact 2-in-1 laptop that offers great comfort during any kind of load

Verdict

The Lenovo Yoga 6 (13″, Gen 8) is a 13-incher that offers good portability and great comfort during any kind of load. The laptop looks modern, and we are happy to see that the aluminum lid and the base are stable with a few exceptions. The backlit keyboard is comfortable for typing because it has decent key travel and clicky feedback. The touchpad is very smooth which is a result of its glass surface.

The 13.3″ 16:10 IPS display (LEN133WUXGA) is a small gem. The 1200p panel has a 99% sRGB color coverage and thanks to our Gaming and Web design profile, the color accuracy reaches an average dE value of just 0.6 which is awesome! This means you can use the display for color-sensitive work. The panel is PWM-free so it should not cause an eye-strain if you take regular breaks after an hour or two.

We like the presence of extras like a 1080p Web camera with a privacy shutter and a fingerprint reader. The I/O seems good for the class – two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports with Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 capabilities, an HDMI 2.1, an Audio jack, two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, and a microSD card reader. Not bad!

The cooling may look basic but the performance of the device is normal considering the small chassis and the thin profile. As we said earlier, the cooling system is tuned for comfort over performance and that’s why the device isn’t loud and hot even when the Ryzen CPU is stressed at max.

The upgrade options aren’t something to write home about (which is actually standard for many more laptops in this category) but that’s a result of the compact dimensions. The maximum amount of memory is 16GB of LPDDR4x-4266MHz RAM and this should be enough for most people, at least for now. The memory is working in dual-channel mode – good. The single M.2 slot is compatible with Gen 4 SSDs but it’s downgraded to Gen 3 speed. The GPU performance isn’t impressive but on the other hand, you can play CS:GO on Medium details with 81FPS so you can have fun with some light games after work. The battery life is long enough for a whole working day away from the charger.

The Lenovo Yoga 6 (13″, Gen 8) is a compact device that offers reasonable performance for the class, alongside a 1200p IPS display with great color accuracy, and a cooling solution that is tuned for comfort.
