What better way to calculate the performance difference between a new and old generation than to directly compare two corresponding chips from these generations.

This is why we have the Ryzen 7 6800H and the Ryzen 7 5800H, which are very similar on paper, sporting the same number of cores and threads, along with the same cache size. The clock speeds are also extremely similar. One major advantage is the DDR5 RAM support on the Ryzen 7 6800H, which can and probably will come in clutch.

Today we are comparing the Ryzen 7 6800H against the Ryzen 7 5800H.

CPU benchmarks

The new CPU is decently ahead in 3D Rendering, scoring 12% higher in Cinebench 20. Moving to Photoshop, there is a lead of around 0.6 seconds, in favor of the 6800H. The little refinements and improvements to the architecture, coupled with the faster RAM are making it easy for the new chip.

Conclusion

Its totally expected that the new generation of processors will outshine its predecessors, and it would be a massive failure for AMD if it didn’t happen. The Zen 3+ series is already struggling against Intel and their Alder Lake CPUs, so it seems like Zen 4 will have to come in to rescue Team Red. If you’re looking for maximum performance, the Ryzen 7 6800H is the CPU for you, however, the 5800H is still very capable and will continue to serve well for some time. You can probably get a good deal on a laptop equipped with it as time goes on.
