Intel Core i5-1035G4 vs AMD Ryzen 7 3700U – CPU and iGPU comparison

It was about time to clash those two – the Intel Core i5-1035G4 and AMD Ryzen 7 3700U. The Intel Ice lake CPU is based on the 10nm tech process while AMD is using 12nm for its Ryzen 7 3700U. Before Ice lake, the Intel processors were less efficient than their AMD rivals. Let’s see if that is already true or the status quo remains unchanged.

It will be a hot battle.

Quick Specs

Intel is selling the i5-1035G4 for $309 and we don’t have an official bulk price for Ryzen 7 3700U. Both CPUs have 4 cores and 8 threads. The Core i5-1035G4 has a lower base and boost frequencies than the “red” rival – 1.10 GHz/3.70 GHz vs 2.30 GHz/4.00 GHz. The Intel CPU takes the lead with better memory supported frequencies DDR4-3200, LPDDR4-3733 while Ryzen 7 3700U can be equipped with DDR4-2400 memory.  The Ice lake CPU has 2MB bigger cache size (6MB to 4MB) and lower TDP values.

The Core i5-1035G4 has an Intel Iris Plus G4 iGPU (with 48 EUs) and we have AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 for the AMD CPU.

CPU Benchmarks

Both CPUs are neck-a-neck in 3D rendering (Cinebench) but if you click on the “Adobe Photoshop” tab you will see that the AMD CPU is faster in those terms.

Results are from the Cinebench 20 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

GPU Benchmarks

The GPU performance is somehow a mixed bag, at least in the synthetic benchmarks. Overall, the RX Vega 10 is faster.

Results are from the 3DMark: Fire Strike (Graphics) benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Results are from the Unigine Superposition benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Gaming tests

The real deal is the gaming tests. Let’s what those two have to offer.
cs-go-benchmarks

CS:GOHD 1080p, Low (Check settings)HD 1080p, Medium (Check settings)HD 1080p, MAX (Check settings)
Intel Iris Plus Graphics G469 fps37 fps22 fps
AMD Radeon RX Vega 1051 fps30 fps

DOTA 2HD 1080p, Low (Check settings)HD 1080p, Normal (Check settings)HD 1080p, High (Check settings)
Intel Iris Plus Graphics G497 fps46 fps28 fps
AMD Radeon RX Vega 1071 fps35 fps15 fps

Yes, the Intel Iris Plus G4 is clearly faster when it comes to real-time gaming performance.

The final

Honestly, both CPUs are good. They have enough power for your daily needs and even for heavier tasks such as image and video editing. No matter the CPU in this comparison you will have a snappy and fast machine.

But which one is better? In the CPU benchmarks, they have almost the same results in Cinebench but in Adobe Photoshop the AMD CPU is the clear winner. The Intel iGPU wins in the GPU synthetic benchmarks and in the real-time gaming tests too. For example, in DOTA 2 at 1080p on Low preset, the Intel Iris G4 has a result of 97 FPS  while AMD Vega 10 has 71 FPS – which is 27% better score for the Intel iGPU.

By the way, keep in mind that the Intel Core i5-1035G4 is a mid-range CPU while AMD Ryzen 7 3700U is one of the AMDs top dogs so the Intel CPU really can hold its ground when it’s compared to a high-end “red” CPU. The Intel Iris G4 is a mid-range iGPU and it’s faster than the top integrated graphics from AMD.

Dota 2 and CS:GO are both Intel optimized titles it’s not fair to reach such a conclusion based on those two games. Not cool laptop media… not cool.

This is the shittiest article I have ever read. You literally did a comparsion between CPU intensive games, in which the i5 1035g4 has an edge in. Test more games, like RDR2 or GTA V and we will see which one is really better. Overall, garbage article and needs to be flagged as “misleading”
