How to open Apple MacBook Pro (14-inch, M3) – disassembly and (no) upgrade options

Step 1: Accessing the Internal Components

  1. Power off your Apple MacBook Pro (14-inch, M3) to ensure safety and prevent any damage.
  2. Remove the six Pentalobe screws from the bottom of the laptop.
  3. Attach a suction cup to one of the two bottom corners, and gently pull up to release the internal clips. Repeat this step for the other corner.
  4. With the corners released, use a pry tool to slightly lift the bottom side of the plate, then carefully push the panel forward to detach it from the top-placed hooks.

Hint: Proceed with caution to avoid damaging the internal components or the casing.

More info: Since the memory and NVMe are soldered to the motherboard, there are no upgrade options available for these components.

Step 2: Removing the Battery

  1. Locate the battery connector on the motherboard and gently unplug it.
  2. Remove the four Phillips-head screws securing the battery to the chassis.
  3. Lift and remove the 69.6Wh battery from its compartment.

Caution: Be careful when handling the battery to avoid puncturing or otherwise damaging it.

More info: The 69.6Wh battery can last for 16 hours and 40 minutes of web browsing or 14 hours and 17 minutes of video playback, providing impressive battery life.
