Acer Swift 5 (SF514-56T) – Top 5 Pros and Cons

This new Acer Swift 5 (SF514-56T) is a stunning piece of machinery. Just from one look, you can see the craftsmanship and time that has been put into designing it.

Looks aside, it’s still plenty powerful, with Alder Lake P-series processors and the Iris integrated graphics. The new 28W CPUs can excel at a variety of tasks, including video editing without a discrete graphics card. The Swift 5 brings all of that in a portable chassis, which makes it one of the lightest 14-inch laptops.

Today we present you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the Acer Swift 5 (SF514-56T).

Acer Swift 5 (SF514-56T): Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the Acer Swift 5 (SF514-56T)

1. Design and build quality

The Swift 5 uses aluminum for its body, as you get a CNC-milled chassis. This lowers the weight by 200 grams, compared to last year’s Swift 5 (SF514-55GT), down to 1.20 kg. The profile is thin as well, at 14.95 mm. The laptop has a mist green finish, while the sides are left with a gold hue, making the laptop appear very elegant and expensive. The laptop is strong, as the base doesn’t budge at all. On the other hand, the lid makes some pops when you try to twist it.

2. Display quality

There are two display options, with either a FHD+ or a QHD+ IPS panel. We tested the QHD+ display which comes with comfortable viewing angles, a peak brightness of 536 nits in the middle of the screen, and 496 nits as an average for the whole area, with a maximum deviation of 14% and a contrast ratio of 1560:1. The panel shows 100% sRGB coverage.

The color accuracy improves a lot with our Design and Gaming profile, lowering the dE value from 4.0 to 1.4, an idel scenario. Here are the results of our test with the stock settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

3. Battery life

The laptop’s 56Wh battery pack lasts for  11 hours and 40 minutes of Web browsing, or 10 hours and 10 minutes of video playback. These are good results and mean that the laptop can last you for a whole day. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

4. I/O

The port selection includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, and an audio jack.
