Intel Core i7-1065G7 vs i7-9750H – two different worlds

Is a standard 4-core / 8-thread CPU enough for gaming and a lot of background tasks at the same time? Maybe Core i7-1065G7 will help us find the right answer for you. It is (still) a new CPU offer from this year, combining 8 threads and pretty good TDP levels. At the same time, i7-9750H is here – a powerful and hungry 12-thread CPU.

Let the fight begins.

Quick Specs

Core i7-1065G7 is a bit shy when it comes to raw CPU power. It has a lower core-count compared to the i7-9750H (4 cores vs 6 cores), lower CPU frequencies (1.30 GHz / 3.90 GHz to 2.60 GHz / 4.50 GHz), and 2MB less cache – 6MB vs 8MB. The i7-1065G7 shines when it comes to memory support, DDR4-3200; LPDDR4-2133 (DDR4-2666; LPDDR3-2133 for the i7-9750H) and TDP levels – its typical TDP is 15W, while i7-9750H has huge TDP – 45W.

One of the biggest differences between the two CPUs is the IGPs inside of them – the new Intel Iris Plus G7 for i7-1065G7 and UHD 630 for i7-9750H.

CPU Benchmarks

Well, this is a big win for the i7-9750H – 85% better result in Cinebench.

Results are from the Cinebench 20 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

GPU Benchmarks

Intel Iris Plus G7 is 45% faster than the UHD 630. So, the new Intel IGP is a capable one.

Verdict

We all saw what happened, Core i7-1065G7 has a much faster IGP while i7-9750H wins when it comes to raw CPU power. The right choice is up to you – if you don’t play games and you need a powerful CPU, the i7-9750H is the right one. If you use your notebook for video editing, Photoshop, or you just need more snappy PC, i7-9750H will be much faster compared to the i7-1065G7.

Core i7-1065G7 is a good choice for the ones who play light games from time to time (and don’t need top-end CPU performance) – DOTA 2 and CS:GO will run much smoother with Iris Plus G7 while UHD 630 will struggle a lot, even on medium settings. A quick note – 99% of the devices equipped with the i7-9750H will have a dedicated GPU, so, i7-9750H with UHD 630 only is a very rare case. In addition, the i7-1065G7 can be found in thinner and lighter devices because of its lower TDP levels. Core i7-9750H needs more sufficient cooling and dissipates more heat, which means thicker devices (because of the bigger and heavier cooling solutions) with shorter battery life.

What you need – thin and light notebook, with acceptable CPU performance and good IGP power or a bigger and thicker laptop, which has a much faster CPU, slower IGP, and shorter battery life?
