AORUS’ foot soldiers, the 15 and 17 gaming laptops come fresh off the oven, or in this case the manufacturing facility. The AORUS 15 and AORUS 17 devices offer both the 12th and 13th Gen Intel CPUs, along with the RTX 40 series.

We see this as a decent move, since purely for gaming, the Alder Lake processors will still do a phenomenal job. What’s more important is that we get the GPU upgrade. The visuals and aesthetics have been improved as well, with some RGB and more gamer-y touches.

Today we’re giving you a quick overview of the AORUS 15 (2023) and AORUS 17 (2023).

Design

The laptops share the same design, however, we have no information about the build materials. At best, we expect metal on the lid, but the whole device might be made from plastic. Still, we would hope for good durability. What we like is how both devices look, with RGB lighting behind the lid, for some ambient color, and RGB backlighting on the keyboard. The touchpad is decorated with some lines which cover about 30% of the surface.

Display

The laptops come with three FHD IPS options, with either a 144Hz, 240Hz, or 360Hz refresh rate. The 240Hz panel has 100% DCI-P3 coverage, while the 360Hz panel has 100% sRGB coverage. There’s also a QHD 165Hz IPS display with 100% DCI-P3 coverage.

Specifications and features

The laptops offer a total of four CPU options, including the Core i5-12450H and the Core i5-12500H, as well as the Core i5-13500H and the Core i7-12700H. For graphics, you have three options, the RTX 4050, RTX 4060, and RTX 4070, all with a 140W power limit.

In terms of I/O, the two laptops come with two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, one USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, one USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, a Thunderbolt 4 port, a mini DisplayPort 1.4, an HDMI 2.1, a LAN port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. The AORUS 17 also brings an SD card reader.
