Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 11 review – it’s ultra-light and the battery life is outstanding

All benchmarks and tests were conducted with the “Best Performance” mode activated (the presets are integrated into the Windows Power mode menu).
CPU options
CPU-wise, you can choose among four 15W Raptor Lake U and three 28W Raptor Lake P chips. This includes the Core i5-1335U, Core i5-1345U, Core i7-1355U, Core i7-1365U, Core i5-1340P, Core i7-1360P, and Core i7-1370P.

Max CPU load
In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering.

Here, the Core i7-1355U can sustain a bit higher clocks in short and medium loads compared to the ThinkPad E14 Gen 5. Not bad for an ultra-light device. Still, the temperatures in this scenario are high which is kind of expected. The frequencies in longer load look normal and the temperature drops down to 72°C.
Comfort during full load
Just like many other new Lenovo laptops, the performance presets are integrated into the Windows default power modes. Under heavy CPU stress, the fans aren’t noisy, they are almost quiet. In this case, you can feel some heat under your finger on the left side of the keyboard but thermals are okay for normal usage. That’s possible because of the inlet keycaps so the cooling system can suck air through the keyboard deck.
Interestingly, the fans aren’t spinning in idle or in light loads until the CPU reaches the 50°C mark. When the processor is working hard, the fans’ speed is ~6300 RPM but the noise levels are low. This speaks of good fan quality.

Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with. The 57Wh battery unit lasts for 25 hours of Web browsing or 20 hours of video playback. Great!
