Acer TravelMate P6 (TMP614-52): Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the Acer TravelMate P6 (TMP614-52)

1. Design and build quality

In order to keep low weight and profile, the laptop resorts to using aluminum alloy. This also has the added benefit of making the laptop decently durable. As for the design, Acer brings a touch of minimalism, with a very flat lid with sharp edges and rounded corners, along with a bottom panel with sloping edges, resulting in a very cookie-cutter appearance. There’s also very little branding, with only a tiny Acer logo on the upper right corner of the lid.

2. I/O

There’s pretty good I/O coverage, despite the small dimensions. We see two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a single USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, an HDMI port, a MicroSD card reader, a SIMcard tray, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

3. Display quality

Acer heavily advertised the full sRGB coverage of the display, and we are happy it wasn’t all talk. The 14-inch FHD+ IPS display comes with comfortable viewing angles, a max brightness of 364 nits (cd/m2) in the middle of the screen, and 355 nits (cd/m2) average across the surface with a maximum deviation of 7%. The contrast ratio is also surprisingly high – 1870:1. The display covers 99% of the sRGB gamut, while also delivering pretty good accuracy with our Design and Gaming profile, lowering its dE value to 1.2 from 3.0. We are glad to see that there’s also 0 PWM usage across all brightness levels.

Here are the results of our accuracy test with the stock settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).

Praca biurowa

Projektowanie i gry

Health-Guard

4. Battery life

Despite the small chassis, Acer managed to put a 56Wh battery unit inside, which lasts for 16 hours and 40 minutes of Web browsing, or 12 hours and 23 minutes of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

1 reason NOT to buy the Acer TravelMate P6 (TMP614-52)

1. Upgradeability

Upgradeability is often looked over when it comes to smaller products, and such is the case here. We have no RAM slots, but at least the notebook uses quad-channel memory, which should speed up your iGPU, whose performance is often tied to the RAM that you have. In terms of storage, we only have a single M.2 PCIe x4 slot.

Here is our detailed teardown video, which shows how to access the available SSD drive.
