Dell Latitude 15 5521: Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the Dell Latitude 15 5521

1. Design and build quality

While the laptop is in fact made from plastic, it is very durable due to its heft and thickness. Also, the plastic that is used is high quality one, with some parts also being made out of recycled materials. Dell has been one of the front runners when it comes to implementing recycled and sustainable materials in their products, from the packaging to the components inside the device.

The laptop has a profile of 24.05 mm, but is generally light, weighing only 1.70 kg, which for a 15.6-inch workstation is very good. The design implements sharp edges, round corners, and minimal Dell branding on the lid.

2. Input devices

Moving down below the lid, we see a full keyboard with a NumPad, along with long key travel and clicky feedback. A backlight also comes as standard, for those long working days and nights. There is no TrackPoint, but the touchpad will generally suffice, with its decent accuracy and clicking mechanism. The surface is a bit rough, making gliding not the best, but overall it offers a fine experience. Most of the time you will be using a mouse, so it’s not like you’re losing a lot.

3. I/O

In terms of ports, you get a lot of stuff, including two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a SmartCard reader, two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1), an Ethernet port, an HDMI 2.0 port, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and a MicroSD card reader. You can also find a SIMcard tray on the back.

4. Upgradeability

Taking the device apart was a nice experience with a total of 9 Phillips-head screws holding it in place. On the inside, you can see the honeycomb pattern, which attributes to the sturdiness and rigidity. You get two SODIMM RAM slots, along with two M.2 PCIe x4 slots. If you choose the configuration with a smaller battery, you also get enough space for a 2.5-inch SATA SSD.

Here is our detailed teardown video, which shows how to access both the RAM and storage slots.

1 reason NOT to buy the Dell Latitude 15 5521

1. Display quality

There are three display choices, with either an HD TN panel with a 1366 x 768p resolution. Then is the unit that we actually tested, which arrives with Full HD resolution and an IPS panel. Lastly, there is a 4K UHD panel. The Full HD panel comes with comfortable viewing angles, a max brightness of 296 nits in the middle of the screen, 284 nits as an average for the whole area, and with a maximum deviation of 8%. The contrast ratio is also quite very good – 1430:1.

The panel covers only 52% of the sRGB color gamut, making it unusable for color-sensitive work.

The accuracy also isn’t usable both with the factory settings (left) and with the Design and Gaming profile applied (right).

Praca biurowa

Projektowanie i gry

Health-Guard
