Acer Nitro VG252QXbmiipx quick review – Weird Name, Good Game

Contents

The fastest monitor that we’ve tested so far, the Acer Nitro VG252QXbmiipx, comes in at an attractive price point while delivering very good specs for any esports professional. Despite Acer butchering the name of their product, the rest of it is pretty good, like the IPS panel, which promises VESA-certified DisplayHDR400 as well as ample color coverage. This means that the screen can display punchy and vibrant colors.

In today’s quick review of the Nitro VG252QXbmiipx, we’ll also check out how much we can improve the accuracy of the monitor, as well as give you a rundown of other interesting features and settings that it comes with. Our profiles get the job done 99% of the time, making both laptop displays and monitors incredibly accurate colors that are great for designers and artists. You can read all about them right here. What’s in the box?

Inside the monitor packaging, you’ll see the monitor itself, as well as the parts for its stand, one power cord, and two cables for connecting it to your PC. There’s both a DisplayPort and an HDMI cable inside, but in some regions, there might only be one of the two in the box.

Drivers

Acer is so far doing a poor job with drivers, running a lousy operation. It’s either that, or there are just no drivers for the monitor. We left no stone unturned and the only thing we could find was the Acer Display Widget, which takes over for the OSD menu, giving you much of the same customization and control options.

You can find the Acer Display Widget here: https://www.acer.com/us-en/acer-display-widget

Design

The Acer Nitro VG252QXbmiipx is a classic gaming monitor with a Black + Red color scheme, which makes it feel a bit outdated. What keeps it modern and interesting is the thin bezels on the top and the sides. In terms of assembly, things are relatively simple.

You need to secure the stand to the back of the monitor (it clicks into place), and then screw the base on the bottom. It can all be done without a screwdriver. If you want to save space on your desk, you can also use a 100 x 100 mm VESA mount, which will also allow you to move the monitor horizontally and vertically, depending on what stand you purchase. With the base stand, you only have a tilt mechanism for a better viewing angle, which is pretty much the case with all gaming monitors around this price point.

Connectivity

The port selection on the back is rather simple. On the left side, there’s only the power plug, while on the right, there are two HDMI 2.0 ports and a single DisplayPort 1.2a. There’s also an audio jack for taking advantage of the built-in speakers inside the monitor.

OSD menu

The OSD menu here allows you to switch between three different modes: “Action”, “Racing”, and “Sports”, which are all customizable, so you get the best image depending on the type of game you’re playing.
