Dell Vostro 16 5630 review – modern-looking device with PWM-free display and basic cooling solution

Temperatures and comfort, Battery Life

Max CPU load

In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good
indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering.

It looks like the rather simple-looking cooling solution is having a hard time taming the Core i5-1340P during any kind of stress. As you can see, the CPU can maintain decent power limits in short and medium loads, while the temperatures and the core clocks are nothing to write home about. In prolonged periods of 100% stress, the temperatures are okay, the power limit is reaching the official base value, while the CPU clocks are unimpressive (especially the frequency of the P cores). It looks like a U-series CPU will be a much better choice for this machine. On the positive side, in normal daily usage, the device feels snappy.

Comfort during full load

In “Ultra Performance mode”, you can hear the fans, but the noise isn’t that intrusive. Still, if you want a dead silent machine, you can use the “Quiet mode” at the expense of lower performance. Weirdly, under load, the hotspot on the keyboard is located in the WASD zone. However, the thermals are okay for a “cozy” experience even at max CPU stress.

Battery

Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with. This laptop comes with a 54Wh battery pack. It lasts for 9 hours and 5 minutes of Web browsing, and we got the exact same time of video playback. The result can be described as decent for a device with a P-series CPU.
