Acer is coming back to kick some budget laptop butt, and their Aspire 5 is ready for it. It comes with the latest 13th Gen Alder Lake U-series processors, as well as a large display and a decent price tag, which is rare to see these days. Looking at most gaming laptops in 2023 that harness the latest components, they are wickedly expensive, even the budget offerings that are supposed to be affordable. That’s why sticking with an iGPU if you need a simple daily driver is a great decision. The iGPUs from Intel are good enough for any task you throw at it, while not adding extra strain on the battery or the price.

Design

The Aspire 5 comes with a plastic chassis that looks decent. It’s similar to any other Aspire 5 from last year, with a Steel Grey finish and minimal branding. The Acer logo appears twice, but both times it’s small and almost unnoticeable. On the base, there’s space for a full-sized keyboard, as well as a touchpad with an embedded fingerprint reader.

As for ports, the laptop offers two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, one USB 4.0 Thunderbolt 4 port, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Display

The display selection of the laptop includes only a Full HD IPS panel, which we know nothing about, as Acer isn’t really the best at providing information about its products. We hope to soon be able to get some hands-on experience with the product so we can share more information about it.

Specifications and features

As for hardware, so far the laptop is only offered with the Core i5-1335U, which is a fine chip for handling daily use and some tougher tasks here and there. The 10-core chip has enough resources to multitask well. The Iris Xe Graphics G7 iGPU is snappy enough to play 4K video and also offers encoding support if you plan to get into amateur video editing. The large screen is also helpful with fitting more stuff at once.
