Acer Aspire 5 (A517-58M) review – Budget Beast with Record-Breaking Performance for the Core i7-1355U
Not everyone needs a small and compact device for daily tasks or office work. Some people prefer to use big-screen notebooks with full-sized keyboards alongside a NumPad section. Even if your budget is tight, you can still find adequate devices in this category like the Acer Aspire 5 (A517-58M). This one offers 15W Raptor Lake-U series CPU options which are battery-friendly chips that don’t dissipate a lot of heat. You can opt for a GeForce RTX 2050 if the iGPU inside of the processor isn’t enough for your needs.
There is just one display model but that’s fine given the price class. Moreover, the panel is an IPS unit with a 1080p resolution. The I/O here doesn’t include a plethora of connectors but the port selection is decent and you get a Thunderbolt 4 / USB 4 that supports Power Delivery. Well, the upgradability isn’t spectacular but that’s one of the solutions for a thin profile and a low weight.
Acer has included some useful features such as an air inlet keyboard and lifting hinge to improve the cooling performance during heavy loads. The device also sports goodies such as a decent Web camera, an optional fingerprint reader, and a choice of two battery versions.

Could you clarify on the RAM front? Your specs say up to 64GB, but the dismantling shows only soldered-in RAM. Some memory websites suggest a SODIMM slot, I’ve only ever seen 16GB versions sold with some indication they could be upgraded to 32GB, which I would like to do with mine – A517-58M-71A2 NX.KHMEK.001
