Design

The B2 laptops aren’t as premium as the higher-end B7 and B9 devices, however, they still get plenty of good stuff, including a neat design for any occasion. Both have a very similar look, with a flat lid and base, which has some structure and angles, especially on the sides and the bottom. All ExpertBooks come with a blue finish on the lid and base. Overall, the laptop looks well made, having a notch that helps with gripping the lid and while we don’t know about the materials that ASUS is using, the laptops do have a MIL-STD-810H certification for durability, which gives us hope that there is metal involved.

WeightHeight
ASUS ExpertBook B2 (B2502C, 12th Gen Intel)1.75 kg20 mm
ASUS ExpertBook B2 Flip (B2502F, 12th Gen Intel)1.90 kg20 mm

The laptops also include some more old-school features, like a pointing stick with separate buttons next to the touchpad. Both laptops also have an improved port selection, which includes two USB Type-A ports, one USB Type-C port, one Thunderbolt 4 port, a LAN port, an HDMI port, an audio jack, and an optional SmartCard reader. The power button is mounted on the side and comes with an embedded fingerprint reader. There’s also a volume rocker, which is unusual for a laptop, but we’re here for it.

Display

The laptops have two display offerings. The base configuration comes with a Full HD TN panel, which has 220 nits of brightness and generally poor viewing angles. We recommend skipping it and going straight for the Full HD IPS panel. It does get slightly brighter, at 250 nits, however, the bigger deal is the better viewing angles and higher contrast ratio, which generally delivers a better viewing experience.

Specifications and features

The CPU selection kicks off with the more tame Core i3-1215U which has 6 cores. From there. we’ve got the more powerful P-series with the Core i5-1240P, Core i5-1250P, Core i7-1260P, and Core i7-1270P, all of which have 12 cores, 16 threads, and varying clock speeds, which should make them perform pretty similarly. Regardless of the CPU, you get integrated graphics, which have shown to be competitive even in more complex workloads like video rendering. The two ExpertBooks get an additional layer of security, as the HD webcam on the front sits beside an IR sensor for facial recognition. All of the biometric information is secured by a TPM 2.0 chip, which also allows you to upgrade to Windows 11. We recommend the OS for laptops with Alder Lake processors since the new Intel thread director does a better job at allocating work on the P-cores and E-cores and is optimized for Windows 11.
