[Specs and Info] Huawei MateBook B3-420 – Tiger Lake in 2023?

Huawei’s laptops haven’t been hit as hard as their smartphones, as with Windows there’s a lot less that can go wrong in terms of giving your personal information. This is great, as otherwise, their laptops look fantastic and come with a good selection of hardware. Today’s MateBook B3-420 does bring Tiger Lake U-series chips, which aren’t exactly the pinnacle of low-TDP performance, however, you can still do plenty of work on them, as they can boost highly when properly cooled, delivering snappy performance when you most need it.

Today we’re giving you a quick overview of the Huawei MateBook B3-420.

Huawei MateBook B3-420: Full Specs

Design

The design has always been a strong suit for Huawei. The MateBook B3 gets an all-metal chassis that weighs only 1.38 kg and has a profile of 15.9 mm. The hinge also folds out the full 180 degrees, lifting up the base slightly as well. The laptop looks and feels good, with sharp edges and rounded corners, reminding us a lot of the MacBook’s previous design.

On the sides, the I/O consists of a single USB Type-A 2.0 port, one Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, one USB Type-C port with power delivery and DisplayPort support, an HDMI port, a Mini RJ45 port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Display

There are two displays to choose from, both with a FHD resolution and an IPS panel. The base option has a peak brightness of 250 nits and an 800:1 contrast ratio. It covers about half of the sRGB gamut. The second display has higher 300-nit peak brightness, as well as a higher 1000:1 contrast ratio. It fully covers the sRGB color gamut, so if you want to tackle professional color work, this is the option for you.

Specifications and features

The laptop is powered by the Tiger Lake U-series, which includes the Core i3-1115G4, as well as the Core i5-1135G7 and the Core i7-1165G7. The Core i3 is rather underpowered, with only two cores and 4 threads, however, the quad-core Core i5 and Core i7 might still have a part to play, depending on how Huawei prices the machine. There are no discrete graphics, so you’re left with the Iris Xe Graphics G4 (Core i3 models) and G7 (Core i5 and Core i7 models). Looking at the laptop and you realize that there’s no webcam. While it’s not found in its usual place in the top bezel, it hides beneath a separate key on the F-row, popping out when you need it. The fingerprint reader is integrated into the power button.
