Lenovo’s solution to the Yoga “ghost touches” problem

Lenovo-YOGA-3-14_Silver_01Recently, we showed you an annoying touchscreen problem we stumbled upon while testing Lenovo’s latest Yoga – from time to time (once or twice a day) the notebook starts registering clicks on its own, in random positions. At first, we thought that it’s a hardware-related issue (faulty digitizer, maybe?).

We found more users that are experiencing this kind of problem and, of course, we contacted Lenovo. According to the manufacturer, it’s a software bug which could be resolved by calibrating the display.

The engineering sample of Yoga 3 we had is no longer in our office, but if you have the same problem, you can try to calibrate your machine. Don’t forget to share the result with us in the comment section! Also, If you have any questions, we’ll do our best to help.

In the meantime, you might want to read our in-depth review of Lenovo Yoga 3.

I had the same problem with my Yoga 12 under Ubuntu Linux. I was able to eliminate the ghost clicks that only happen when attached to the OneLink Pro Dock by disabling the device “Wacom ISDv4 EC Pen stylus” with the following command:

/usr/bin/xinput list | /bin/grep “Pen stylus” | /bin/sed ‘s/.*id=\([0-9]\+\).*/\1/’ | xargs -i xinput disable {}

Lenovo was unable to fix this problem after returning the device three times.

i think this must be a hardware problem, i still have ghost touches after calibrating correct.
when i turn of the pc and start up again they are always gone, but is a big problem when you want to do something quick.

I have returned 3 yoga 700 to best buy within 7 months. They are currently setting up the 4th computer for me. At first they acted like I was crazy, they have tried to fix all of them many times, they keep telling me I bought a bad one but 3 bad ones??? I guess I’m a sucker because they convinced me today to try a 4th computer. I will say best buy/geek squad has tried to be helpful. I just want to buy a computer and the stupid thing to work ?

Is there a solution to the ghost touch problem already that works on touchscreens OTHER than the LG ones on a Yoga 14? In my case, a LEN40A3.

Did you find a solution for LEN40A3? I have a LEN40E2 and haven’t found any fix as yet.

I have owned a Lenovo Edge 15 Model name 80K9 for 6 months now. For the past 2 weeks, I have also been having this issue. I am SERIOUSLY considering going to my local Best Buy tomorrow morning after reading this post & comments. I honestly feel like throwing a temper tantrum with Lenovo at this point considering I have a $1000 invested into it, my VERY 1st 2-in-1! Thanks for sharing!

this is not only a problem in Lenovo, its virtually all brands…it must be a software bug..

The software patch only works for certain hardware configurations (eg LG screens). Not on my Yoga 14, however. I uninstalled the touchscreen in Devices and have essentially given up touchscreen functionality. That took care of my ghost touches, and the associated random applications launches, document changes or worse.

THANK YOU – to Simeon Nikolov/laptopmedia.com – I bought my Yoga 3 a couple of months ago as my hp Pavillion’s Touch Screen was deemed ‘financially unviable’ to fix by the Tech Guys at PC World (UK). My “old” laptop is otherwise perfectly OK – but I have Multiple Sclerosis which affects sensation and dexterity in my fingers (first MS symptoms JUST as I’d learnt to touchtype..yyyyeah great(!) ) …SO it’s v.useful to have a touch screen… THEN the ‘ghost touches’ began… ANYWAY..the advice and FW update *seem* to have fixed this so,so annoying problem. THANK YOU!!! -From your latest… Read more »

I don’t even have Chrome installed… and still ghost touch problems, plus, by the way, some funny pop-ups of the W10 task-space and what appear to be harddisk access-writes.

Nothing is fixing this for me i don’t have the lg panel, i have the Ideapad Y700 15.6″ gaming laptop it seems like it stopped the bug for a week or so and windows updated last night now it’s back again. I get a small ghost box bottom of my screen with the cursor inside and it ghost touches in this area right mouse clicking and so on. For now i have touch screen hid compliant device disabled in device manager. I was growing fond of the touchscreen feature and i can not for the life of me find a… Read more »
