3 reasons to BUY the Acer Swift 3 (SF314-55)

1. Great screen

Acer Swift 3 (SF314-55) has a 14.0”, Full HD, IPS display with Innolux N140HCE-EN2 (CMN14D5) panel – the same as in the business-oriented TravelMate X5. Great news, because we were pretty satisfied with its quality. It covers 98% of the sRGB color gamut, amazingly accurate colors (with our display profile) – dE 2000 = 0.7, and no PWM above 16% brightness / 80 nits (our Health-Guard profile eliminates it completely).

2. Amazing battery life

If you leave your office/home frequently, you’ll be thrilled to find that Swift 3 (SF314-55) can work for more than 11 hours with one charge (tested at Web surfing, 120 nits brightness).

3. Good build quality

Acer Swift 3 (SF314-55)’s body is made out of aluminum entirely which means that it’s strong, solid and durable. However, that doesn’t make it heavy or thick – it weighs just 1.35 kg (3 lbs) and it’s 14.9 mm (0.59”) thick. It definitely feels more “premium” than the SF314-56 variant.

2 reasons NOT to buy the Acer Swift 3 (SF314-55)

1. Trails behind its opponents in terms of performance

The 14.9 mm thickness goes with some sacrifices and the biggest one is the performance. While the cooling system manages to keep the temperatures low, the CPU can’t keep its frequency high for more than 10 sec. Of course, 99% of the tasks you’ll going to give it will be solved in less than a second (since the laptop is clearly not intended for video editing), so chances are that you won’t notice that in everyday circumstances.

2. Quiet speakers, Coil whine from the SSD

It looks like the volume of Swift 3 (SF314-55) is just not enough in every way possible. The internal speakers are pretty small and quiet so we couldn’t miss the coil whine from the SSD.
