AMD Ryzen 5 4500U vs Intel Core i5-1035G4 – another heavy defeat for Intel
Today we have two processors that each introduced a new feature for their company. First, there is the AMD Ryzen 5 4500U which along with a couple of its Ryzen 4000U friends brought the 7nm ULV computing to the laptop world. Then, there is the Core i5-1035G4, which marked a revolution for Intel, bringing 10nm chips, an entirely new architecture, and a better integrated graphics compared to the older Intel processors.
And although Intel has dominated the laptop market for the past 2000 years, AMD has risen its game and is capturing the world as we speak. Let’s get some more information about these units, and get straight up to the benchmarks to see who wins in a straight battle.
Quick specs
Let’s start with the AMD offering. As we said it is built on a 7nm, has 6 cores and 6 threads, obviously without multithreading, and has 8MB of cache. It works at 2.30 GHz base frequency and boosts up to 4.00 GHz. On the other side, the Intel Core i5-1035G4 has a 10nm manufacturing process and is equipped with 4 cores and 8 threads. Its cache size is lower – 6MB, as are the base and boost frequencies – 1.10-3.70 GHz. In terms of memory support, both devices can run DDR4 RAM, working at 3200 MHz, while the soldered LPDDR4 memory can go up to 3733 MHz for the Intel CPU and up to 4266 MHz for the Ryzen 5 4500U.
In terms of the iGPUs inside these bad boys, we have the AMD Radeon RX Vega 6 Graphics for team Red and the Intel Iris Plus Graphics G4 for team Blue.

CPU Benchmarks
In synthetic benchmarks, the Core i5-1035G4 is nearly 30% slower than its AMD competitor. However, in Adobe Photoshop, the difference falls down to “just” 11%.

When we look at the graphics benchmarks we see that the Ice Lake CPU is around 22-27% slower than the Ryzen 5 4500U.

Verdict
Earlier this week, we saw that the Comet Lake Core i5-10210U was no match for the Ryzen 5 4500U. Now, the Ice Lake Core i5-1035G4 has been given the AMD treatment, and therefore Intel has nothing left to hide. As things stand right now, AMD is now beating Intel to the medium budget ultrabook category, and it does so by quite a margin. It is not only faster when it comes to the processing power, but the improved Vega graphics inside the 15W chip really can do miracles with low-demanding video games.
