How much difference is there, and can the extra TDP be of help to the bigger chip? CPU benchmarks
While the Core i5-1240P shows great improvements in 3D Rendering, scoring 33% higher, the laptops are very close in Photoshop, finishing the benchmark at essentially the same time.

GPU benchmarks
While the laptops share the same iGPU, the one inside the P-series processor runs at a higher power limit, due to the CPU having a higher power limit itself. The iGPU inside the Core i5-1240P scores 9% higher in 3DMark Fire Strike and Unigine Superposition.

Conclusion
The two processors perform well, with the Core i5-1240P being the obvious choice between the two if your work mainly consists of 3D Rendering. However, the CPUs are dead even in Photoshop, so you’ll be fine with both, while the U-series CPU should supposedly deliver longer battery life.
